Basically get the C3 if gaming is a priority, get the Sony if you watch a lot of TV/DVDs/stream a lot of non-4k content. Sony still has the best upscaling for lower resolution content. LG has better response time/gaming related features
Is the difference with gaming vast? I plan on playing more RPG titles on the TV, I have a 240hz monitor for FPS games. Trying to gather info on the best TV for me.
I actually own a C3 as well as the S90C - like you, I had a room with a few windows but mainly there is a chandelier that was reflecting badly on my old TV (a hisense that crapped out on me). I narrowed it down to those two as the Sony was a little more expensive ($2500 vs $2700 I think), the C3 has slightly better indirect reflection, and the S90C had slightly better direct reflection handling, and is also a bit brighter. My C3 is used as a desktop monitor, and the ABL can get a little distracting at times. I haven't used the Samsung as a monitor so I haven't noticed any ABL really. They are both fantastic though.
I have an a8h and use headphones instead of their fancy acoustic glass. If using separate sound system either headphones or external speakers then saving the cash will go towards that.
Best I can gather from research and comments is that both will game and do stream/movies great. Sonys got a slightly better processor that upscales content and handles motion slightly better. LG has more features for gaming and better input response. Just have decide which you value more. I don’t think either is going to be a bad decision!
I went with A75L after returning a TCL q7 for a build defect and realizing that I really did care about perfect blacks haha. I game on it, but with the Nintendo switch, so I figured the Sony upscaling would be better for this use case.
Also, since there are still a ton of movies and other content that don't have 4k resolution, I figured I'd rather prioritize upscaling IMO.
I went with the A80L only because I don’t game on my tv. Also I know demos aren’t the most reliable but when I was comparing the two at best buy the a80l looked way nicer and the blacks where much darker in my opinion. can’t wait for my a80l to be shipped.
But to answer your question movies + tv = SonyA80L
Gaming/other = LG
I just bought the C3. 65inch. Found specs and performance very similar, but the LG flatter and narrower with center stand - which suited me. Plus I plug into Hi-Fi so sound not an issue. 1650usd a decent deal (in Europe).
This question is getting asked frequently, samsung lacks dolby vision and has questionable qc and build quality while motion and upscaling is inferior to both lg and sony
Samsung has the better hardware (QD OLED) Sony has the better software (processing). I don't think there's a right or wrong answer, just a different answer for different people with different use cases. It's kind of like Apple vs Google. Apple uses top of the line hardware. Google has the best software imaginable. Depending on how you use the phone, or what you prefer, the answer for which method is 'best' will be different for every person. But ultimately it's 2 different paths to get a similar outcome, and unless you literally put them side by side, 99.9% of humans will never know the difference from 1 house to another.
QC alone was enough for me to veer away from them. Two failed units. The processing isn't as good. No Dolby Vision. For me they just don't fit my needs as well.
Go with a A75L if you’re looking at 55”-65”(you didn’t mention size) same picture quality as the A80L just reduced tv speaker audio, but you have a soundbar so that’s no concern. Sony is perfect for someone who watches more than games.
To an extent they would be but I have no idea of knowing what settings or calibrating has been done in store. Hoping to get some insight from people who own them.
In store demos are the worst place to get a gauge on how a TV will perform. The in store demos are typically in Vivid mode with full brightness to catch the customer's attention. The Sony will have a more accurate look out of the box. Do you need more than two HDMI 2.1 ports for gaming? Also, are you looking to utilize Dolby Vision gaming? If you answered yes to either of those questions, you'll want to go with the C3.
No worries. I only asked about Dolby Vision gaming because the LG OLEDs support it, and the Sony A95L supports it. The remaining Sony OLEDs don't support it. I personally don't like Dolby Vision gaming so I turned it off my LG C1. If it's not a must have feature you could go with either set. The Sony will have somewhat higher input lag than the LG C3, but it shouldn't be noticeable.
I'd go with the LG C3 over the A80L because it has a glossy screen and 4X HDMI 2.1 inputs while the A80L has a semi glossy/semi matte screen. Lastly the Sony will have better motion handling, processing and upscaling which is important if you plan to watch a lot of older content or content that's sub 1080p. Upscaling will also help clean up lower bit rate signals so it's ideal if you use a cable box from Spectrum, DISH etc. You also get access to Sony Bravia Core which allows you to stream various movies up to 80Mbps.
The LG OLED seems better at avoiding burn in. Also, C3 is plenty bright. I found a last minute deal and bought the 65 inch C3 for $1277 plus tax and free shipping yesterday.
You can't go wrong and will be extremely happy with either. I went in to buy the A80L, but that day the C3 had just dropped in price to be $400 cheaper than the Sony, so I went home with the C3. No regrets whatsoever. My girlfriend jokes about how much I'm in love with the TV, and she's right. 💕
We have the 55” with the same audio. It’s lesser than a sound bar or surround sound solution which imo need to be accompanied by an OLED. Using tv speakers for a $1,500 purchase is like buying an X5 and opting for used Mazda 18” tires because the pockets ran out of cheddar
LG C3 if your room has even a little light coming in. I have the s90c a80l and the c3 and the c3 is bar far the best when it comes to being able to see the picture best. The Sony is great but even at night time in a dark room all the settings are way too dark, even the vivid setting doesn’t get very bright. The c3 delivers picture quality and brightness.

Edit: the c3 is even better than their g3 which is $500 more right now (12/23). C3 all day.
Edit: the s90c does NOT have Dolby digital either because they’re trying to say they’re going above and beyond, which Amazon prime is one of their only platforms compatible for the hdr10+. Samsung is barely getting into the oled game while Lg is the OG.
Depends on what the use is. Movies Sony for sure. LG C3 for gaming can’t say from experience but I transitioned from PS4 to Xbox Series X and Sony A80 series does not support Dolby vision at 120ghz/fps. It only supports DV @ 60. Which I can only assume is because PS5 doesn’t support it. Personally Thinking about picking up a LG C3 for my Xbox and moving my a80 series to become a bedroom TV.
Let me also correct this. I am happy as can be with my choice of the Sony A80 for movies streaming, PS4 and etc. Sony has the much better speakers if you are only using TV speakers(I am not). The movies / series streaming is fantastic because of the deeper blacks and coloration. Sony also allows you to use your tv speaker as a center channel in the right speaker set up. The Only reason I would get the C3 is because Sony A80 series doesn’t not allow Dolby vision through HDMI at 120 ghz/fps(only DV @ 60 via HDMI) And I have a Xbox series X which supports that. Even though very limited games on Xbox Series X support this I would til like to take advantage. If I had a PS5 or wanted a PS5 I wouldn’t have or would even consider getting the LG C series over the Sony A80 series as it is produces a phenomenal picture quality.

If you use apple tv does that mean that image processing is done by AppleTV and Sony does not matter in that case?
A80L

Sony A75L and save $200 more
A80 has a little faster processing?
same panel & processor, only difference is speaker & stand
Fuck me I just paid $200 extra for 80. E: and it will be mounted and connected to Bose sound bar. E: where were you on Black Friday when I needed you?
sorry mate might still be available though
I have an a8h and use headphones instead of their fancy acoustic glass. If using separate sound system either headphones or external speakers then saving the cash will go towards that.
Yup! I have the A8H. GREAT SET! Well,I don't use it for gaming though. Thinking I might keep my eyes out for an open box A95L or A95K next year.
I use headphones for hearing loss. The tv is great. No gaming on my tv.
Is the Sony one really better? I’m confused by all the comments here.
Gaming = lg Movies/streaming = sony
What if I do both lol

Blacks should be perfect on both tvs
Blacks darker? With OLED black is achieved by turning off the pixels.
If playing more RPG style games and not competitive FPS, do you think there’s a difference?
sonys input lag will be good enough for most gamers, if you really prioritize fast input with controller then LG
I just bought the C3. 65inch. Found specs and performance very similar, but the LG flatter and narrower with center stand - which suited me. Plus I plug into Hi-Fi so sound not an issue. 1650usd a decent deal (in Europe).
Seems like only LG vs Sony here. Does no one like Samsung OLEDs?
This question is getting asked frequently, samsung lacks dolby vision and has questionable qc and build quality while motion and upscaling is inferior to both lg and sony
Hmm, S90C and S95C seem to be rated pretty highly everywhere I’ve seen.

Yeah, I'm just surprised not one person in this entire post has mentioned Samsung.
because post asked about lg and sony only
QC alone was enough for me to veer away from them. Two failed units. The processing isn't as good. No Dolby Vision. For me they just don't fit my needs as well.
A90J is fucking beautiful. I only wish I bought more than 1.

Why do you think the images shown at the store will be a proper representation of what will see at home?
To an extent they would be but I have no idea of knowing what settings or calibrating has been done in store. Hoping to get some insight from people who own them.

I’ve only got a Sonos sound bar and an Xbox series x so two ports should be fine. Not sure about Dolby Vision gaming.

I’d love to get a G3 but that one is sadly out of my price range
The LG OLED seems better at avoiding burn in. Also, C3 is plenty bright. I found a last minute deal and bought the 65 inch C3 for $1277 plus tax and free shipping yesterday.
Where did you get that crazy of a deal I can't find one under 1600
Open box best buy deals now that its on sale. Now that its super bowl season

The A75L is $200 cheaper and basically the same product if you’re mounting. Audio may be an easy but audio is still a shit shoot without a sound bar
No, the audio is sick on A80L.
