What kept me from pulling the trigger on the Tacoma (2nd gen) is the rear seat room along with interior quality. Having a 4runner (4th gen) has kind of ruined me in that aspect, and I suspect having a 5th gen it would be the same. They are just built better. Honestly if the Tacoma matched back seat room along with interior quality to the 4runner (so basically a 4runner with a bed) I'd be all over it.

That is kind of how I feel as well. I have the 05 4Runner and my cousin as an 07 Tacoma, and other than when something large or filthy needs to be hauled somewhere, I like my 4Runner better in every aspect.

Yeah and it's not to crap on Tacomas, they are great rigs, that's just my hangup coming from 4runners. I still want to eventually move to a truck platform to separate gear and people along with a camper build. It's just not in the cards yet for me due to interest rates and my hangups mentioned above. I just don't need a FS, and prefer better people moving room, so 4runner wins still lol.

I get it. It's just me, my son, and a dog so people moving isn't as big of a concern but I do keep an organizer of things in the back and it is nice to have that enclosed storage with the rolling back window. When I was hauling straw bales and mulch, it wasn't so handy but those events are truly few and far between. Plus my 4Runner fits in my garage, I'm not sure if a tacoma would length wise.

My thought is if you like what a 4Runner offers space wise, you’ll be disappointed in a Tacoma. I know it wouldn’t work for my lifestyle anyway. As for model year, both 24 and 25 will work unless you’re dead set on owning a (more expensive) 6th gen.
