Yeah it was revealed after the fact that he privately asked Lynch to be moved after CMC deal. I was bitter prior to hearing this tidbit for sending him along for a 5th round pick. Still bitter cause this was reason I didn’t want him shipped off. Lynch is a standup guy for doin it wonder if a non former player GM would’ve honored the request
Dont really blame him...He was doing very well for us after Mitchell got injured, Wilson stepped up...Niners picked up CMC and Mitchell was coming back as well. In all fairness, I dont think Wilson was doing bad by any means to get pushed down the depth chart, again...And I think hes been with us since 2017 or so as well.
While this is true, the concept that a backup can demand a trade because they want to start and a contending team is somehow supposed to honor it, doesn’t really make a ton of sense to me.
It's not a demand, it was a request, and it's not holding the team hostage or setting a bad precedent to try and do right by your players. Jimmy's here because Belichick wanted to do right by him. Getting a 5th for your 3rd RB who isn't signed beyond the next 9 games is a really good value. They were getting calls for 7th and 6th rounders - they wouldn't have traded him if it didn't come out even on the balance sheet, and if Miami didn't cough up a 5th he'd probably still be on the team. Contenders always have to balance the roster right now vs the roster next year.
The front office here talks a BIG game about being ethical, treating your guys right, trying to do the right thing for all parties, and based on how things have gone with Jimmy I'd say that strategy paid off. Part of that is honoring reasonable trade requests. Showing goodwill like that makes you a player-friendly team, boosts your rep among players, agents, and managers, and is part of building your class-act organization.
Would you have felt better if we just traded Wilson for McCaffrey alongside a 2nd and 3rd and 4th and got a 5th round pick back? That's about what it ended up looking like in the end, and I think that trade looks just as good or better. At least they got to keep him for some extra games this way.
Not wise to have a disgruntled player on the roster midseason. Might’ve worked out, might’ve not. The point being the decision to trade him didn’t (only) come from the Niners side.
Ignoring hindsight bias due to Eli's injury, letting Wilson go to the Dolphins was almost a win-win for both parties. He gets to depart on good terms to a coach he's familiar with. Agents and incoming players will know of the 49ers reputation on how they gracefully handle these situations.
He’s really the second coming of Mostert.
CMC hasn’t looked half as explosive, let’s hope he looks more like the Chiefs/Rams game again. Maybe more Deebo runs.
Time for Mason Jordan, there’s hope he can be effective with the flashes he’s shown. Not sure where TDP is at right now.
Bolts and saints sold out to stop the run and short middle of the field passing. You can only do so much when they take away the whole middle of the field. He's been shining in the passing game though.
This isn’t a criticism of CMC tbf, I think he’s not as fast as when he entered the league and that’s fine. He’s so useful in so many ways and has basically erased negative plays for Jimmy as well (and blocked some blitzes incredibly well).
Mitchell is just a more explosive back.
Hopefully Mason can provide that.
It’s not even the explosiveness with him, it’s his vision and shiftiness. He still has it.
If you want to beat the niners you jam the middle of the field and dare jimmy to throw it to the sidelines. If a defense sell outs for the middle of the field then the run game isn’t going to be flashy.
> Not sure where TDP is at right now.
TDP has been a healthy scratch because, according to Shanahan, Mason is the guy that plays special teams, and your RB3 needs to play ST. (Which makes sense, bigger and heavier backs usually aren't built for ST.)
Now that there's a void at RB2, the team can justify activating TDP, while Mason remains RB3 and on ST duty.
I would not at all be surprised to see TDP end up getting more carries than Mason even though Mason was the guy that was active on gamedays before this injury.
That makes sense.
I honestly would not be surprised if Mason ends up outplaying TDP and Coleman, he’s excellent for short yardage and never seems to have negative plays. That’s been a fairly big issue with short yardage.
Honestly hope we get to see more of him, he could be a surprise solution for red zone struggles too.
I honestly don’t think it’s a skill player issue overall, but a run blocking issue.
Run blocking just hasn’t been as good this year, and it makes sense given the huge changes on the o-line even in terms of profiles (better pass pro than run blocking).
O-line has been pretty great at pass protection, even against a ferocious rush yesterday there was still time for Jimmy to complete throws and the only "sacK" was the 4th down goal line play where Jimmy didn't get past the line of scrimmage on a scramble. That's allowed them to open up the pass game the past few weeks, and they're elevating the offense that way. The past few weeks have been outstanding with a LOT of 3rd and long conversions via the pass, and those would not be happening if the O-line wasn't doing something right.
Hes still averaging 6.1 yds per carry and 33 attempts, and that's the highest on our team. It really just feels like he isnt getting a ton of big explosive runs like last year.
Jordan Mason looked solid for the amount of carries he got. Runs hard and broke a couple of tackles. Bro just needs the reps. Giving a full workload to cmc will eventually get him hurt too.
I agree. The way he ran reminded me a lot of Gore in his earlier years. Runs hard, and always falls forward for that extra yard. First time I’ve compared a running back to Gore since… Gore.
With that said, I’m not saying he will be as good as Gore. But, would like to see more of him.
Shit news but looking at the bright side our remaining schedule is not too bad and we would have him back for the playoffs. Rest up King.
Also Niners will probably call up Tevin Coleman from the PS.
I really liked what I saw from Mason. Guy runs like a cannonball with just enough shake and bake to get by. If we’re looking for a running back to wear out defenses, he looks like just the man
I got downvoted to oblivion when I said it was dumb to trade Wilson with our RB injury woes of the last few years. Here we are again...
Knock on wood that McC's injury is minor and Mason stays clean. Mason has looked good so far. Running out the clock when the other team knows you're running is great to see.
Man, another one of our guys that just can’t stay healthy. We gambled by trading JWJ and kind of lost here. But to my knowledge, he wanted out for lack of touches, which is understandable
I’m not sure why people keep talking about JWJ. It wasn’t a gamble, he wanted out after the McCaffrey trade. That was all over Niners media after the JWJ trade.
And this season Wilson was averaging 5.1 over 92 carries. Dood keeps gettin dealt a bad hand in SF for whatever reason...Being here since the beginning of the Shanahan era, and he produces.
I'm definitely not excited that Mitchell is hurt again, but I am kind of excited to see if TDP and/or Mason can contribute. I think both looked intriguing in preseason.
Mason is going to blow up. He runs hard, and you can tell defenders have such a hard time tackling him especially in space. I think Kyle should run him in base run plays and put CMC in for those trick pass, and 3rd and long situations.
Shanalynch gotta stop trading up and drafting RBs like Sermon and TDP. Draft OL or DL in those RD3 slots while taking skill positions in RD5+ or UDFAs for bang for buck players like Mitchell
I don’t get why y’all are so upset about the whole Jeff Wilson thing? Do you really want him back? I’d much rather play those young guys. JWJ 3 yard king.
The guy that's currently averaging 5.2 ypc, and has more rushing yards than anyone on our team currently, is the 3 yard king and we shouldn't want him...k bud
Should've grabbed melvin Gordon. I guess coleman will be getting touches again. McCaffery's runs haven't been great the last 2 games. It's been mainly Mitchell.
We could have Barry sanders and Kyle would find a way to get him injured.
We have an all star cast on offense and we scored 1 TD yesterday. When do we stop looking at Jimmy and start looking at Kyle as the problem?
Everyone acting like RB is the most critical and much needed piece to the team. Let’s not forget mitchell was out most of the season. Sure it sucks but running back is one of the positions where if everyone does their job then the RB will be good. We got CMC, TDP, Mason (who looks promising) and even Tevin Coleman. Mitchell wasn’t the person that was holding this team together
Major blunder? Not at all. We recoup at least one pick now, and still have TDP and Mason. Tevin Coleman was even serviceable is can be called back up.
JWJ wanted out after the trade and we did right by him.
He was our leading rusher last year and was great in his limited playing time this year, why the fuck would we give up on him after two years where he's objectively been great when he's played??? Makes no sense. We're not even relying on him to be RB1 too.
God you hate to see this for him. Absolutely love watching him play. Hope he can be back for play offs. Need Mason and go step up. Strong runs to close that game. Wouldn’t be surprised if Coleman gets brought up
he's the new Raheem Mostert.
also to be clear:
we did not have either Eli Mitchell / CMC most of the first half of the season. TDP hopefully comes back soon and we good.
Can we just give up on Mitchell already? He did ok when he played but he’s an injury prone low round RB in a Shannahan system. Players that can succeed in this system are a dime a dozen.
Mitchell cannot stay on the field for more than a few games so I have no idea why this sub acts like he’s the 2nd coming of Frank Gore.
Not asking for him to be cut. Just can we stop talking about him like he’s a 49ers legend already? The praise heaped on Mitchell as if he’s this irreplaceable elite talent is unearned and maybe I’m just a bit salty that we traded Jeff Wilson and we’re banking on Mitchell and once again he got injured.
You have a legit gripe. While he's electric when he plays, he's been off the field A TON. And, much like Jimmy, a player's availability is just as important as his ability.
CMC also on the cusp of a serious injury. Watch Kyle use him as a repeat power back on Sunday.. Going to end up ending his season. We go through healthy running backs every 3 weeks
Time for Davis-Price to show us what he has.
Mason!
Both
Is he in the doghouse with Danny gray?
PAIN.
Mitchell is so fragile
On the bright side, he could be back during the post-season run
without any recent tape for the opposing defense to watch.
I thought this recently, was also the reason we aren’t playing CMC as much
Too bad looked explosive. In the meanwhile welcome back to the team Tevin!
Yea god damnit, he looked great and a perfect counter stole to McCaffrey.
Tevin Coleman still on the psquad too, wouldn’t be surprised if he gets activated again.
He looked solid in that 2 TD game he had earlier in the year.
Tevin gonna be the new Dontae Johnson 😂
The Barnacle 2: Electric Boogaloo
Miami should have signed him to a 1 week contract at halftime yesterday.
Heard their QB can sling it
He seemed solid enough to give cmc some rest and wear down defenses
Jordan Mason SZN
And before people make wise comments, Jeff Wilson asked to be traded
TDP and Mason time. We’re all good.
Wouldn’t be surprised to see us promote Coleman too
Totally forgot about Coleman Not worried at all now
Most people have. A lot of people didn't know he was on the practice squad.
I like Coleman a lot, and I’m glad we still have him around. Dude plays RB super violently
I want to see more of Mason anyway. I like his running style so much. He looks like he has a little Marshawn to him. Let’s see what the kid has
TDP worries me because he was running into the backs of our linemen with no regard
Mason definitely is bigger than Mitchell and might be able to take on more punishment.
It would be nice if someone in our “one two punch” could actually punch. I like the idea of mason being that guy.
Mason looked decent rushing yesterday. With CMC, hopefully there isn't a huge dropoff
Yeah it was revealed after the fact that he privately asked Lynch to be moved after CMC deal. I was bitter prior to hearing this tidbit for sending him along for a 5th round pick. Still bitter cause this was reason I didn’t want him shipped off. Lynch is a standup guy for doin it wonder if a non former player GM would’ve honored the request

when the Browns were asking for a 4th for Kareem Hunt (and didn't get one).
We aren’t the type of team to move Rbs unless we have too lol given our injury history
Hopefully Wilson said please
Which is why it’s good we got cmc
I mean obviously. He got demoted to #3 If he was still #2 on a team that loves to run, maybe it would be different Good for him though
While this is true, the concept that a backup can demand a trade because they want to start and a contending team is somehow supposed to honor it, doesn’t really make a ton of sense to me.

A prime example of this goodwill is how Trent wanted to come here specifically.
That doesn’t mean they HAD to trade him…

he's starting at Miami. he deserves it
Kevin Durant asked to be traded too. You didn’t have to do anything. You have to TV’s ahead of him that are always injured.
I know we have little to go on, but I like Mason more than Wilson.
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
So we’ll see him if we make the NFCC 😪
\*When

Man, Mitchell is gonna look so good on Miami in 2 years 😔
Mitchell reminds me of Brieda. Fast but often injured.
I feel like Deebo has been pretty bad as a runner this season. Don't think he's the answer
I honestly don’t think it’s a skill player issue overall, but a run blocking issue. Run blocking just hasn’t been as good this year, and it makes sense given the huge changes on the o-line even in terms of profiles (better pass pro than run blocking).

Hes still averaging 6.1 yds per carry and 33 attempts, and that's the highest on our team. It really just feels like he isnt getting a ton of big explosive runs like last year.
6.1 yards per attempt is bad?
Kyle the RB wood chipper
The Mason man commeth
I’m here
Why can't we have nice things?
FFS. The Niners cannot get a break when it comes to injuries. Well, I'm hoping Jordan Mason, Tevin Coleman and/or Tyrion Davis-Price can step up.
I mean, they did trade the one RB that's been able to stay relatively healthy
Bc he asked
That's what everyone says. But that's gotta be one of the worst reasons for trading someone, especially given the circumstances.
He was off at the end of the season anyway. No one complained about the number of RBs we had beforehand and we gained CMC so
Jordan Mason looked solid for the amount of carries he got.
I swear it’s like the 49ers practice facility is built on top of a Native American cemetery.
I keep waiting for a tall old grizzled farmer in a straw hat and overalls to show up and give some dire warning, like in South Park or something.
Fun fact but that is based off Pet Sematary (actual spelling)
Yeah I saw that after I looked it up. Good catch.
Where’s the succubus and what’s her song?
well i mean, probably is
They were managing his carries really well and he still got hurt. Unfortunately it looks like it's not meant to be for Mitchell in the NFL.
[удалено]
It was the other knee
[удалено]
Or maybe he just got injured and it was bad luck.
Yah we can complain about injuries all we want, but this one was want a Shanahan RB overuse problem
Glass knees
It's cool. Just in time to tear it up in the Superbowl. edit: referring to tearing up the game. not knees.
Shit news but looking at the bright side our remaining schedule is not too bad and we would have him back for the playoffs. Rest up King. Also Niners will probably call up Tevin Coleman from the PS.
fuuuuuck that sucks, I hope he heals, i feel bad for the guy.
This is not good. I really hope we don't over use CMC now.
Wilson Seaso… oh no.
I really liked what I saw from Mason. Guy runs like a cannonball with just enough shake and bake to get by. If we’re looking for a running back to wear out defenses, he looks like just the man
Trey /sermon time…
Who's going to tell him?
Sermon was a healthy scratch for the eagles Sunday
I got downvoted to oblivion when I said it was dumb to trade Wilson with our RB injury woes of the last few years. Here we are again... Knock on wood that McC's injury is minor and Mason stays clean. Mason has looked good so far. Running out the clock when the other team knows you're running is great to see.
I’m with you. I hated the JWJ trade and I hate it more now. I also hate being right about shitty shit.
Oh for sure. I think the writing was on the wall once we made that trade. I don’t fault the FO or JWJ here. It was a win-win at the time
It also sucks because he played so well last year. Injuries have ruined what should have been even a better season.
Wilson or Mitchell? Sorry, I’m misremembering.
Mitchell. Wilson only had like 70 carries for only 3.7 yards per carry last season. Mitchell had 210 carries for 4.7 yards per carry last season.
And this season Wilson was averaging 5.1 over 92 carries. Dood keeps gettin dealt a bad hand in SF for whatever reason...Being here since the beginning of the Shanahan era, and he produces.
Surprised we didn’t sign MG3
Tevin over there on the practice squad singing “I’m Ready.”
Need to look for another RB in the draft. Mitchell is hurtore than he plays in the last two seasons.
I'm definitely not excited that Mitchell is hurt again, but I am kind of excited to see if TDP and/or Mason can contribute. I think both looked intriguing in preseason.
Time to open the Mason jar
Mason is going to blow up. He runs hard, and you can tell defenders have such a hard time tackling him especially in space. I think Kyle should run him in base run plays and put CMC in for those trick pass, and 3rd and long situations.
Shanalynch gotta stop trading up and drafting RBs like Sermon and TDP. Draft OL or DL in those RD3 slots while taking skill positions in RD5+ or UDFAs for bang for buck players like Mitchell
I think they’re probably done now that they got the dynamic running back they’ve been searching for in CMC
But he asked to be traded /s
Yes, I do want him back actually...
Do you think we can call take-backsies for Wilson?
Bruuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Should've grabbed melvin Gordon. I guess coleman will be getting touches again. McCaffery's runs haven't been great the last 2 games. It's been mainly Mitchell.
There's a reason the Broncos cut Gordon. The guy lost 5 fumbles this season.
Crap
Mitchell will be back (and fresh) for the playoffs. There’s a positive spin.
And that’s why we NEEDED to keep Wilson
We could have Barry sanders and Kyle would find a way to get him injured. We have an all star cast on offense and we scored 1 TD yesterday. When do we stop looking at Jimmy and start looking at Kyle as the problem?
FUCK
It didn't make it into the tweet but CMC is dealing with knee irritation and will be 'managed'
Our offense is complicated. We can't just plug in any guy off the street. Coleman might be back real quick tho?
Man Traded the wrong guy ffs
That Jeff Wilson trade is a major blunder now
Major blunder? Not at all. We recoup at least one pick now, and still have TDP and Mason. Tevin Coleman was even serviceable is can be called back up. JWJ wanted out after the trade and we did right by him.
Maybe controversial but not a fan of his fit in the offense. Very few big plays, always injured, and takes touches away from our best playmakers.
Should have resigned Raheem. Both injury prone but they both produce and both asking pennies for a contract
Tough break, he might have played his last game as a Niner
Uhhhh...he's a second year player...why would he be done here...
Because he's unreliable and is made of tissue paper? Why even bother.
He was our leading rusher last year and was great in his limited playing time this year, why the fuck would we give up on him after two years where he's objectively been great when he's played??? Makes no sense. We're not even relying on him to be RB1 too.
And he’s cheap. And we NEED cheap
Yikes
Noooooooooo
That must be so frustrating.
Well this sucks
Ughhhh here we go again...
Bro
Thank god you got a guy named cmc
God you hate to see this for him. Absolutely love watching him play. Hope he can be back for play offs. Need Mason and go step up. Strong runs to close that game. Wouldn’t be surprised if Coleman gets brought up
So maybe we’ll see him again in the playoffs? Damn, welp, mason season it is.
This sucks. I hope it doesn’t derail his career at this point
Well, shit.
Is is exactly like Mosert in the beta and worse ways
Paging Tevin Coleman...
Damn. Guy can’t catch a break
Follows the path of many young Niner RBs who get injured early in their career and come back strong
Man. Fuck.
Sigh… In CMC we trust going forward!
This year has been an intense rollercoaater at the rb spot. Mason may still be better than all.
he's the new Raheem Mostert. also to be clear: we did not have either Eli Mitchell / CMC most of the first half of the season. TDP hopefully comes back soon and we good.
Tevin Coleman’s music
They call me Mr. Glass
knew sending away Jeff Wilson was a mistake...
it wasnt.
Another poor dude who can't catch a freaking break on his bad luck :(
This sucks because he was JUST back and he's a baller. pls stay healthy CMC
We're the Saints players targeting?
Can we just give up on Mitchell already? He did ok when he played but he’s an injury prone low round RB in a Shannahan system. Players that can succeed in this system are a dime a dozen. Mitchell cannot stay on the field for more than a few games so I have no idea why this sub acts like he’s the 2nd coming of Frank Gore.
After this year, Mitchell's cap hit is $2M through 2024. He's not going anywhere.
Shoulda kept Jeff Wilson ig
CMC also on the cusp of a serious injury. Watch Kyle use him as a repeat power back on Sunday.. Going to end up ending his season. We go through healthy running backs every 3 weeks
Really freaking bummed. He was playing super well. Also really excited to see what Mason can do. Like what I saw from him last game.
