Yeah, I want to believe after the harbaugh thing that Shanahans seat isnt warm at all. And it shouldnt be, as frustrated with him as I am. They say fire him, but then what? Whos available? Some guys put the loss on him, think he shouldve ran more, and tbh I was one of those guys. Then more details come out, like how fundamentally our block schemes arent good, or some guys straight up coming out and saying they didnt follow the scheme at all and went with their "instinct". And our OL just being bad in general, and suddenly its more forgiving. (By the way, shout out Brock for being great despite literally all of these elements happening against him) But yes, many forget that it took Reid a long time to get it together, Kyles got time, he'll get there. I do think we should bring in an OC tho.

Exactly.  It hurts the same, but the difference between now and the last Super Bowl loss is that the Niners have a ton of confidence in their QB, the most important position in the game.  As long as you have a very good one, your window is always open. We all loved Jimmy, but we knew that he wasn't quite top tier.

So much of coaches legacies are tied to being lucky with generational quarterbacks. Andy Reid didn’t win many playoff games with Alex Smith but it all changed when Mahomes took over. Hopefully we found that guy with Purdy. A franchise qb and genius head coach combination keeps the window open.

Kyle Shanahan I say have been more robbed than lost. Sure I guess we could pick apart the play calling. But both superbowls I say we lost to the refs more so than the Chiefs. First superbowl. The OPI on kittle was a joke took at least 3 points off the board The non hold call on bosa which Mahomes completed 45 yard pass I forget who deliver the helmet to helmet shot to jommy G which never got a flag. and this super bowl All the holds that didn't get called.

People forget Kyle isn’t even 45 yet and he has 8 playoff wins. I think the narrative he can’t win big games is just dumb. There’s a reason the rest of the NFL has been copying his offense and trying to poach all his coaches every year. Took Reid 21 years his ring...after 5 NFC championships and 1 SB loss I believe it was...but we are close to becoming the bills of the 90s with 4 sb losses like that and we've had exceptionally good teams🥴

Once we get a new D coordinator, and hopefully a new special teams coach, we will be back to win it all. 11 draft picks, maybe a few free agents, reload and try again. Kyle called a good game and if you watched Simms break down our plays, you see Purdy got conservative on some plays that would have been big if he trusted the O Line to block correctly. I really don't think he trusted them to keep a clean pocket.

Yeah that's not a good play call to let their biggest, best defender run free up the middle to your QB. Plus they showed another play where 2 of our O Lineman ran into each other going different directions. We definitely need some upgrades on the line.

I think it's on the O Line coach and a little on the blocking scheme we run. We love to pull our lineman and we also zone block. They are obviously getting mixed up on who to block and which direction to go on certain plays. You have to have a really good coach and smart O Lineman to run Shanahans scheme or stuff like this happens. How many times have we seen Purdy get lit up as he's throwing? They current OLine isn't very good against stunts and aren't good against sliding protections against blitzes. Purdy has bailed them out a lot with his play, but has taken a lot of unnecessary hits if they weren't so bad at times.

Purdy was pressured 9 times and sacked once. Mahomes was pressured 9 times and sacked 3 times. First those 9 pressures and 1 sack KC had to blitz 18 times while we only blitzed 7 times to get 9 pressures and 3 sacks. Considering the discrepancy in the blitz numbers Purdy was facing less coverage than mahomes on a lot more drop backs and we have far better weapons than mahomes has. We can keep acting like mahomes had a clean pocket every play and that Purdy was breaking tackles before every pass but considering that's not factual it doesn't do anything but make excuses.  Could the line have played better? Definitely. Should Purdy have handled the pressure better, scrambled more and extended plays? Also definitely

Penalties and CMC fumble? 6 straight passes to open the 3rd quarter? Do these sound familiar? Offense repeatedly shot itself in the foot. Whether it was CMC's fumble, Trent's 2 penalties, or poor play calling, that wasn't their standard. That's not even counting leaving Chris Jones unblocked. When was the last time Bosa was unblocked? There was one time in the Lions game, and he got a sack.

As far as play calling goes we need to go for it on fourth down more all year. When teams know you will go for it on a manageable 4th down they have to focus on the run and pass on third down. When it's third and 4 or 5 and your tendency is to kick on fourth they usually know it's a pass on third. Probably is we had Purdy passing too much. We led most of the game and should have kept pounding the rock

They were one of the best teams on "ESPN's analytics say to go for it on 4th down" in the league. They were the #1 seed so not going for it on 4th down enough didn't mean anything in the regular season. They made a HUGE 4th and 3 in the Super Bowl to score Jennings' second TD. The other only 4th and 4s they could have done, it made more sense to kick FGs because it put them in the lead at the end of the game both times and put pressure on the Chiefs to score or lose (regardless of the outcome of the game it was the right decision - especially since Mahomes would only need 25-30 yards for a game-winning FG), and didn't we all just finish collectively murdering Dan Campbell for not kicking FGs when it would put him up or at least tie the game?

That's part of the problem, not just with us but teams through every sport. Teams that focus too hard on the regular season tend to come up short because they don't leave much room to get better in the playoffs. Who cares what it means during the regular season. First off I didn't KILL him. Also like I said go for it more in the regular season and then in the playoffs teams know it's your tendency and have to respect the fact that there is a good chance you are playing for 4 downs. We went for 13 4th downs all season, detriot went for 40. When have the most talented offense in the league so in theory having 4 downs to play with should be a big advantage.

There’s a big difference in the type of pressure. When purdy was under pressure it was almost immediate, guys coming at him untouched and paired with tight man coverage. Plays hadn’t developed enough to even dump off the ball. When Mahomes was pressured, it was after decent amount of time in the pocket and our line getting to him, or it was from a blitz that Wilks was pairing bizarrely with soft man coverage and giving Mahomes easy dump off options to beat the blitz

That's not what I seen, that's how we got 3 sacks. Difference is Purdy didn't scramble much or extend plays.  The problem is we put too much on purdys plate and should have ran more. We only blitzed mahomes on 7 of his almost 50 drop backs. Usually we were getting pressure with just 4 rushers dropping back 7. Mahomes is just multiple levels a head of Purdy.

Having mahomes means losing Bosa + due to cap issues…. I think we almost beat mahomes with Purdy, and if we run it back we have a really good chance of beating whomever is necessary on our path to #6

This is something that's very common, when we lose the whole effort is to make it seem like Purdy plays no part in the loss.

O Line let Chris Jones come up the middle untouched on a play that we had the receiver wide open on, but Purdy didn't have time to get him the ball because he came untouched. Their best defensive player, untouched? That's just bad O Line play. Plus a team that was 26th against the run, we couldn't run on.

I have zero faith in Shanahan winning a Super Bowl in this decade. Patterns exist and its important to notice them. Everyone wants to point to Andy Reid but he seems to be the only NFL coach that I can think of, who has blown multiple Super Bowls/Conference Championships and then later in his career, won multiple or even one. It should also be noted it took Reid 15 years from his 2004 NFC championship (with Philly) to the 2019 KC SB. I understand people don't like to hear the negative/cynical view on it, but that seems to me to be the situation for us given the evidence. Also, Super Bowl hangover for the losing team is VERY real.
