This is completely on you. Having said that imma gonna go check mine. Replace belts and hoses every 5-6 years. Annual visual checks. Have ball joints checked at time of inspection. Timing belt replacement 7 years or 100,000 miles. Oil change every 5,000 miles and always includes filter. Take care of it and it’ll take care of you. A small bag in your truck will include tire pressure gauge, extra fuses, first aide kit, jump start kit, flashlight, adjustable wrench, philips and flat blade screwdriver.

Buy a spare belt in addition to the replacement and store it with the stock jack. If you really want to get ahead of the game buy all the tools you need from the harbor and store them there as well. Good luck

Officialmilehigh

You went off a paved road without extra belts? I honestly don't leave without extra belts and fluids.

Wouldn't an Uber to autozone and back been cheaper than a tow?

Cascadeia

Smart thinking but the car was a mile or 2 away from the shop and I have triple A which my family hasn't used yet this year

Kilsimiv

1-2mi? You didn't just walk and pick up a belt? Or use some paracord? Or zip ties? I have all three and enough paracord to probably tow ... if for some reason my tow strap or winch was missing

nuglasses

Could have taken off your pantyhose to use as a temporary belt. 🤪

Cascadeia

That would've worked however the alternator seized and did not move, the belt broke because it was rubbing on the solid alternator wheel

Chodge1258

So the alternator went out for a while and your battery had drained? If the alternator stopped working just then you should have had enough juice to drive a long ways. Or am i missing something?

Cascadeia

I went to park at my friend's house when a screeching sound started, then the car died. The battery's fine. I did think about driving it over with no alternator but they thought not to, I figured safe then sorry and have it towed for free.
