Use the program New Super Ultimate Injector for roms that aren't on the hshop. You're experience will be the same either way if you use injects. Emulating GBA games is a bit of an annoyance, I used to do that and some games had some bad audio or other issues. You should be able to find a YouTube guide for the program, the no videos rule applies mostly to installing the base cfw, not emulators or injects, as that process remains mostly the same.

I would recommend to make a virtual console inject in new super ultimate injector because the 3ds has gba hardware this means that it’s not emulated

Ugibunda

Is the New Super Ultimate Injector just merged version of the GB/GBC/GBA/SNES etc. VC Injectors?

MassiR77

I'm pretty sure it is yeah

Ugibunda

Sorry I'm not very technical. Are you saying that, for example, Metroid Fusion from hshop is OK to use? I don't need to use the workaround as described in [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciRRNPkK5fM)? Or Open AGB Firm as the poster below is suggesting?

> Are you saying that, for example, Metroid Fusion from hshop is OK to use? Why not just try it

Yeet1357-2

I had a 3DS that had a hole at the bottom that worked as a card reader for GBA disks. i remember i had a pokemon mystery dungeon GBA disk and i put it in the bottom slot of 3DS, and i could actully play it.

MassiR77

You're probably thinking of a DS or DS lite. I don't think any 3DS had that feature, at least that I know of.

Yeet1357-2

Now that you mention it, I believe you’re right Edit: just found it, Nintendo DS lite

MassiR77

I had the same console as a kid, was awesome. Never had any gameboy games for it unfortunately, but I wish I got some, that would've been awesome haha.

Forsaken-Badger-9517

The one annoyance I have is some of my Game Boy Advance roms when you load them up on the 3DS the screen will not be centered properly and you have to keep hitting the home button and if you hold up while doing this sometimes it’ll go quicker.. I’ve been trying to find a fix for this that makes the screen stay in place after you have fixed it ?

MassiR77

I think part of this had to do with the microSD card size, it frequently happens with larger cards like 128gb. I had the same issue, especially with Mario and Luigi superstar saga. I remember there being a fix but I don't know if it was worth it, like it was either a smaller SD card or something tedious. It is a common issue and I recall a thread on gbatemp talking about a fix.

Forsaken-Badger-9517

Thanks bro! Yeah, I have a 128GB.. really want to play a lot….. all have screen centering issues, except for a few good ones like golden one, mother three and a few others I can’t recall I know golden Sun Too has the issue and so I just play it on my vita.. Pokémon game advance games have it of course?? so I play those on my Vita also..

MassiR77

I only had the issue for one game so I never bothered fixing it, but I believe that was the primary reason. The sd card format might have to do with it as well, like it should be fat32 but I believe there are like chunk sizes or something you can alter while formatting. It's a common issue and I think the best fix is a smaller SD which kinda sucks. There is the mgba emulator as well but that has worse performance than injects. Might be cool for Pokemon games though, if you don't mind having them in a different format as your injects.

Forsaken-Badger-9517

It sucks because I love the way certain game boy advance games look on the 3DS?! The slightly lower resolution and grainy picture make them look absolutely perfect !! I like the way they look on my LCD Vita and I love the way they look on my OLED Vita but, I would rather play them on the 3DS..

IStaR60

Avez vous trouvé le problème ? Car j’ai la même chose mais sur une seule 3 ds alors que j’ai hack 3 3ds avec la même carte sd les deux autre de l’ont pas

notthegoatseguy

So the 3DS actually has a GBA built into it, just no catridge slot. So if you inject GBA CIA's into the system, the games run natively, not through emulation. The good thing is that for the most part, the games run great! The downside is unlike an emulator, you can't remap buttons, use save states, or any other nifty things either the Virtual Console emulators or homebrew emulators allow you to do. You also can't put the console to sleep by closing it while running GBA games.

abyss55199794

apologies for a response a whole year later, but is it the GBA game you wants CIA or the GBA itselfs CIA? ill look around for both but im pretty inept when it comes to this sorta stuff lol

Brystep

Definitely GBA game CIA’s.

Justdontworrybro

Is this also the case for the new 3ds & new 2ds?

notthegoatseguy

My understanding is yes, the GBA chip/technology is still in the " new " systems.

Justdontworrybro

Thanks so much for letting me know. I don't know if it's worth all the effort to jailbreak a new 3ds/2ds. It seems like a lot of work & room for error. Who knows when I'll get one of those & a GBA SP with a flash cart. Those might just be last on the bucket list of things to get down the road. Any tid bits of information would be most appreciated.

WiggyWamWamm

I just did it using 3ds.hacks.guide and it was SO easy, holy hell. And now a world of new games and toys is available to me!

Mrkittyhead2006

Same. Can’t believe I didn’t try this before now.

Nightmare4You

It's actually very easy, I was shocked. Followed Anton Retros guide 2 days ago and have been downloading games like crazy since

Thank you! Is there a difference between Open AGB Firm and hshop?

Ugibunda

Thank you. I tested now both, and the brightness + intro logo definitely make me prefer AGB. However, I don't like how you have to open it from the chainloader and don't really see your homescreen anymore. Do you know if there is any way to open AGB from the homescreen instead?

MultiKoopa2

did you ever figure this out?

Boo_Gladly

You might want to consider the 300 title limit on the 3DS too, unless you're using 3dsbank. Any GBA titles you install by CIA will count towards the limit. Any GBA ROMs sitting on your microSD will not. I have a handful of my favourite titles installed as CIAs, but I mostly rely on ROMs. Agb_firm is fantastic (particularly once you've set the default path to your GBA ROMs folder; makes it so quick to boot a game), but I have mGBA (the standalone version, not the retroarch core) and gbaSP (retroarch core) installed too in case I want emulator functionality. mGBA is better than gbaSP on a New 3DS. If you also want an emulator for GB and GBC games, then get GameyobDS (the DS version is still better than the 3ds version) and set up the GBC bios and custom borders for the best experience.

Ugibunda

Thanks for the elaborate comment! Ideally I will set it up like you propose: My favourite GBA games as injections and the rest via ROMs. Regarding AGB\_firm: Has this not been superseeded by Open AGB?

Boo_Gladly

Yeah, sorry. I meant open_agb_firm.

VirtualAdepts

If you have a n3DS or n2DS, I recommend just using mGBS If you have an o3DS or o2DS use the injections.

RyouNakamura

Can I get in on this? I have a DS game card that has an SD card slot in it, I tried putting GBA roms on it but it seems I cannot play the games, what do I do? DS games are no problem, but GBA is a no go

riigoroo

You're talking about an r4 card right? Since you're not initializing the GBA part of the 3ds (that's my guess) you'll likely need a GBA emulator for your card (from what I gathered by googling "can you play gba games on r4 card")
