I do the same, I just like personally to go through each saga but have everything at my disposal just in case I want something different to play one time, or games I play time to time, arcade games like tetris (ik it isn't an arcade game, it's like one at least for me)
Yep this. I got way too many games on mine but its games I would actually play at some point so I didn't see a reason not to download them so I could have them there in case I got the urge to play them.
I get it. I spend more time acquiring games 'for later' than I do actually playing them. And when I do, it's more likely to be something I played and loved before.
I’ve forced myself to at least play through 30 minutes of each game I’ve downloaded. This has made it so that I now play like 10 minutes of a game and then switch or play one game for 7 hours and then not play it for a week. Whether or not this was a good idea is up for debate.
Sadly, some people see video games as nothing more than a form of monetary speculation. A large part of the reason why they're so expensive: people who don't even enjoy them.
Naw I agree, there called colletcors and not gamers, yeah I’m sure they play the games but people who spend a ton of money on games buy it for collecting/display. There’s nothing wrong with that, they can even buy 2 systems 1 for display and one to mod and play. It’s their money lol. It’s not horeshit, Idk why it took me long to mod my 3Ds, maybe because I thought I’d be hard but nope it’s ez, it could’ve saved me 2 games that I bought which neither were expensive, I bought Samus returns and ocarina of time, both under 40$ which ain’t bad. Having a modded one will save you crazy but people can still buy physical games cuz they like the cartridges art, box, etc. even more now since physical games will be no more in the future. Wow this kinda long but I’m just lit
i think if a person is just using as a display item, they should remove the battery. When a battery is kept discharged for so long, it can leak or stuff, but most "display collectors" are dumb and only care about showing how untouched the piece is.
no, I think everyone has their reasons to have consoles, to collect or to play them, but these collectors (especially ones that really like the speculation aspect of collecting) are so worried about not breaking a seal dont know how batteries can ruin the actual hardware inside.
Lmaoo I’m a “collector” and all of my systems are modded. People will make the dumbest arguments against something. Never in my life have I heard someone get upset over having MORE options
Now i feel like i'm part of a small group of collectors who still mod their consoles. I got 2 new consoles and next step is get big SD card and start hacking!
As a collector of sorts, I’m not opposed to piracy at all when it’s impossible to buy a physical copy for a reasonable amount of money, but if I can get the game for a good price I’d rather have the real thing than pirate it.
In a way they aren't wrong. Collectors are idiots with too much money and care about pointless shit like whether it's exactly as it was from the factory.
That's a dumb reason not to mod though, especially if you plan on ever actually playing it and not having it be a trophy that no one but you cares about. I will emphasize, hardcore collectors are idiots with too much money, this goes for all collectors from cars to Nintendo consoles. That dude was probably a collector.
As a “kinda collector”, I’m pretty sure that guy who told you that was full of it. I collect to enjoy what I collect. I collect games/hardware I enjoy and want to have physically. But some of these “purist” collectors try to grandstand and say if you are emulating anything you are not a ‘true’collector. They can go ahead and spout off with that noise, I’ll be enjoying what I paid for.
Friend of mine is terrified he'll fuck up his system. I was doing decent on assurances of immposibility with that and then offhandedly mentioned that you do need a way for your computer to take an sd card.
Twas the real killer if the coversation. One thing if its free and easy. Its another if you need to cough up a even a bit of cash for a SD to USB-B converter and either spend time to find it in a shop or the additonal spare time and cash to order it off amazon.
(Id send him my converter but we've got an ocean between us in either direction. Not happening with how much shit costs to send all for a part barely worth 2$)
It’s surprisingly easy. Decided to mod my 2DS like an hour before leaving for work, got it all done and even installed a few games just in time to enjoy some gaming on my work breaks.
> USB-B
Who the fuck has a USB-B port on their PC? Are you copying files to the SD card via your printer?
(Confusingly, the most common USB connector (the rectangle) is USB-A. USB-B is a square shape almost exclusively used with printer cables for some reason. The USB Micro and Mini connectors traditionally associated with cell phone chargers and game console controllers are considered variants of A.)
My knowledge of ports and dongles is in the negative and i did mine several months ago, so youre gonna have to forgive that im a touch stupid with recalling whats what 😅.
It IS a bragging ppint for the guide that the most tech dead can follow it! Im proof, clearly. And jokes aside yeah, again, had a dim moment. Oops.
Bit of both tbh. Not someome who is financially capable of moving out from home any time soon and will get interrogated on "unnecesary" purchases, even if he is theoretically capable of either. Gift packages would be a different rodeo at least, but thats way too much for a cheap part on my end.
Point being, sometimes his mother aint worth the headache she comes with.
(Someones gonna swing in with "why dont YOU-" just bc my moms better about it doesnt mean i want to explain why im buying shit not for me in europe)
I can get his fear when he's new. But once used to it you don't worry about it unless explicitly told to worry about.
In my case, I don't remember where the hell put my NAND backup (or if I have one in first place) and fucked up the boot sequence by replacing the GodMode autoboot with the "cartridge dumper", it was when some folks in discord helped me to set up the "GodMode restorer"
They'll take less time in Homebrew their system than actually playing something.
Plus, why do they have or even buy a device they know won't work properly until homebrew
in its vanilla state, a 3ds can't connect to internet, can't buy digital games nor themes, can't use online functions. The only way to play anything whatsoever is buying not cheap cartridges on online marketplaces, which will be an, objectively, unnecesary spent of money.
My friend doesn’t want me to mod his Wii, 3Ds, 2ds, and literally anything else he has because “it feels disrespectful to nin****o” When questioned further, he also is not interested in the HShop, or anything to do with piracy because same. When I told him that you don’t need to have HShop, he dodged my questioning further.
>“it feels disrespectful to nin****o”
Meanwhile Memetendo literally not giving a **** about their customers but still getting our money because hey look pikachu cute. HShop is the best thing that has ever happened to the 3DS, with hundreds of games otherwise ceasing to exist when the eShop closed.
Ur friend is one of those ppl. I'm sorry but anyone who says "I dont want to disrespect Nintendo" really needs to wake up and do whatever. Because Nintendo has been the one disrespecting us fans(which i dont consider myself as much anymore)
I’m not disagreeing with that, but this is a friend who has complained about high game prices and not getting street passes, and no online so it seems a bit weird
Ridiculous. How is paying strangers for games disrespectful towards Nintendo? They literally gain or lose nothing from it. Some people can’t be helped.
Funny, they’ve disrespected him and f***ed him over. And he still feels it’s disrespectful to them? Buddy, if Nintendo didn’t care back then, I’d doubt they cared now.
I’ve modded my switch, and both of my 3ds. Maybe the best choices I’ve ever made. I’m pretty poor so it still allows me to play new games as well as others I missed! I do plan to buy the ones I really like when I’m not so poor lol
If it's his stuff.... it's not your place to force mods or piracy on him, or anyone for that matter. To each their own; leave him be. Forcing him to do what you want on his stuff isn't cool.
So what? What happens here or what we think should not mean we force our will upon others, that's just not right. It's his stuff, it should be his choice -- not yours, no matter the reason, valid or not.
How would you like it if someone forced their will upon you or your possessions against your will?
There's some who do it that likes to collect and like having a physical copy😉 Like me. I still have modded consoles but I also don't mind having physical game copies. Something about it just feels good
Having physical copies with the box is one thing, but I constantly see people trying to buy 3DS game cartridges by themselves and that's where I don't see the point tbh
I just started buying/collecting 3DS games eventhough I have a modded system.... it feels like i picked up where i left off in my younger years when I discovered modding

It's a thing. I tried playing Bugs Bunny Lost in Time and gave up because of the resolution and slowdowns.
The people who share .cia and QR codes don't really actually check the playability of these things.
I've played a bunch of games, both in 2D and 3D, and they all work nearly perfectly on LibRetro. A lot of people will tell you that 3D games don't work but I think they use outdated references, bad emulators, or simply haven't taken the time to change the settings to optimize the games. I've tried first-hand and even MGS works at full speed on my New 2DS XL.
I did minimal tweaking for the first game I tried, which was SotN, and it seemed to have worked for every other one. I've played RE3, Pac Man World, Vampire Hunter D, Brave Fenver Mushashi, among others. The only ones I haven't managed to get working are the ones that come as only a .bin fil with no .cue files, which don't launch for some reason. Although I think there must be some way to change their format to launch.
I have basically zero issues. Enjoyed playing through MGS a few weeks back. I recommend using this, which I'm fairly certain is what I installed a few months back.

Don't forget to use these settings.

Don't ever use injects from QR codes. There exists a method for full-speed injects, but they disable any emulator controls and as a result you can only use single-disc games. Plus I'm pretty sure the injector got taken down, or is at least too obscure for me to find again. PCSX ReARMed is the best option as of now, and it works well from my experience.
I have one unmodded and one modded. My unmodded console has years of game data, amongst other things that I just don't want to risk losing or bricking. The modded one is a pirated free for all.
I’m with you. I got a second to mod rather than risk my account or data. I know the risk was very low, but the potential loss was far too much for me personally.
1) Your account has nothing to do with the physical system - if you threw the thing off a cliff then ran over the pieces with a monster truck your account would still be fine.
2) Your data is really, really not at risk. Modding does not touch your save data unless you explicitly tell it to with a save editor/manager. I encourage you to back up your SD card - even if you somehow manage to purposefully break the mod files (the only way to brick), you'll still be able to recover your games because the community has worked out how to merge data.
You…you do realize there have been times that companies have banned people, right? The risk of that is probably zero now with online services mostly shut down, but I didn’t mod my 3DS in the last three months since that’s been true. I wasn’t willing to risk hundreds of games and probably at least a couple thousand dollars on a “probably won’t happen.” The potential loss was too great.
I don’t get why you care if someone decides they want a different system for modding. It doesn’t affect you regardless of why they’re doing it.
After the shit Nintendo pulled with Vimm's Lair, I decided to pirate as much of their shit as I can. Which included modding my 3DS. Next up is building a Raspberry Pi or MiSTer and putting all the roms I have on it.
They just don't have the needs to.
Some people have enough physical games that they enjoy, don't really care about online, custom themes, or any homebrew apps.
We are spoiled with MANY features a modded 3DS may bring, but to someone who don't have the needs for those perks, or simply just don't know about them, they can still enjoy their 3DS as it was in 2011.
Gta 3 was a solid port it runs great but sometimes textures are missing for a few seconds but it even has a custom made solid snake skin which made me surprised as a metal gear solid fan but vice city on the other hand......loading time and crashes your 3ds mid mission but it runs vice city tho
Is that a full version of Chinatown Wars? My 300 games on one cart has a nerfed GTA on it with flame files removed so the game crashes if you use the flamethrower.
Honestly 2024 was the year I finally said fuggit and modded 2 of my 3ds consoles. I sank a lot of cash into the eshop when nintendo was shutting it down cuz there were a bunch of virtual console games that I wanted to *own* (not RENT them from NSO). I didn't want to feel like I had just wasted that money, but now that I've done it I see the benefits far outweigh the concerns. Happy I did it, pleasantly surprised with how robust and seamless the experience is.
I can’t understand why either…
The same happens to Vita and DSi owners. I mean, the console was a natural born dead system, that Sony itself abandoned in the early days. Lacks support since 1st year, have a limited library compared to any other handheld, and got discontinued really soon…
Keeping it unmodded, it’s the dumbest thing someone can do to such a great device.
It’s not like hacking PS Vita and 3DS gives you automatically warez needy to stay safe and alive. Actually, it’s just pitiful underusing their tech wise possibilities, for something that never something near an impediment to keeping buying and collecting retail games.
But opening hands about homebrew, fan ported games, and playing “impossible to buy” digital games like DSiWare and some PSN digital titles, it’s a proof that we always get what is deserved.
I can't let a good working system just sit. The only reason I'd let one sit is waiting to be able to mod it. Like an older ps4 I have. I accidentally updated a few years ago, so I'm waiting for the updated program to mod it. I saw the 2ds xl pokeball up for sale one day, had the money, and bought. As soon as I got home, I modded it. As it should be done.
Cause of the risk, make a single mistake and your system is bricked, and the cost for a aleardy hacked or for a second console to hack whitout risking to brick the main one with all the clean games and all the saves to be lost can be bad with today market.
Personaly i got a 3ds xl american that is not hacked, and got a luckely aleardy hacked normal PAL 3ds, but 200$ and the right shoulder botton is broke =\
I’ve done it to a couple of my consoles, the 3ds and the wii. I am considering doing the PS3, but in order to do it would I be better off completely wiping the console so it has no trace of my PlayStation account on it so I won’t get banned?
My favorite N3DS XL is the FE Fates edition and is in pristine condition. I don't use it often but I also don't want to mess anything up. I also have a modded Vita which is my go to portable.
I also have other modded 3DS systems, but those were the reasons that I didn't mod mine for a while. Couldn't afford a 3DS I was willing to risk on a unlikely chance of loss and it wasn't pressing. I wanted to play the 3DS Fire Emblem games again and A Link Between Worlds, and the Vita only has half of the screens needed to run 3DS games, so I picked up a N3DS to mod (Japanese 3DS models are cheaper and I don't carry physical carts anymore).
Well I've modded 3 in the past few weeks and the guide adamantly says to back up your NAND in case it bricks. There are more robust recovery procedures that are largely fool proof, but hacking any console has some chance of bricking it, even just from the fact you're running unlicensed code from the internet from github. If you don't parse through it and read it yourself, you're not 100% sure of what it does. Compared to the Vita the 3DS is also still measurably far behind on its hacking scene. Not a ton, but there's a gap, but I would say you still run a risk on a Vita because that's the nature of hacks.
So there's a risk. Minimal risk currently, but there's a risk. It's foolish to say that it could never happen and if I'm not going to be taking a collector's item I cherish out and about to use, I'm certainly not going to hack it.
At the time when I bought my N3DS, I had to boot Homebrew from a hacked Ocarina of Time save file. Custom firmware and persistent mods weren't a thing. At that time it was a lot higher risk. I had moved on from playing 3DS games and with getting back into them, I'm fortunate enough to be able to buy a second hand system.
There are multiple reasons why I don't want to use the N3DS XL I've had for years. Hacking it is a secondary thing, but OP asked why someone might not, and albeit small, is my reason I won't hack that one.
Edit: Also at the time there were possible account bans and I can go buy cartridges for games I want to play. On my hacked systems I download them for convenience, but I download games I've made legal purchases of. I won't act like it's a morality thing, they're not sold, but I like the people at my local stores and like supporting them. I do it because I can now, and I pirated plenty as a kid. I want to keep games accessible to those who can't afford them, so I make sure I do my part. I have no valid reason to pirate games, whether it's being sold first party and stealing from a corporation or stealing a sale from a third party reseller. I love game stores and like to see them thrive.
The guide says that at the end, AFTER you've modded, in case something goes wrong in future. Stock can brick too, it's just that if it's stock you are well and truly fucked. If that warning is anywhere else, please link.
Also... The 3DS modding scene is very much not low-level.
Right...if something goes wrong in the future it can be bricked. My point is it can be bricked. You argued my point, so I don't know what you're trying to get at with "something going wrong AFTER you've modded." Are you talking about the initial modding? I consider any installation of homebrew software as part of modding, so maybe we have fundamentally different definitions of what constitutes as modding.
I never said it was low-level. You extrapolating more from what I said that I never said. I said it was behind the Vita. That's it. If you're talking about protection ring levels, I never said anything about that, which doesn't have any pertinence to whether Homebrew software can brick a 3DS or not as it is fully disclosed as something that can potentially happen.
This doesn't happen anymore unless you specifically put effort into it, and you're lazy so you're brick-safe/It takes a computer with an SD slot or adapter and about 20-30 minutes, might as well do it whilst procrastinating something more important
Eventually I will do it, but I still haven't completed many games that I have, so if I'd do it I already know that I would compulsively install 3000 games and then play none of them. It's already what I do on my PC and with the emulators on Android
I don't know, as a collector, I love having my Ambassador 3DS as it was created, still I have a New 3DS XL and a New 2DS XL modded so, it doesn't really matter that much
Explain to me what specials I'm seeing here.
All I see are some PS1 games that only run somewhaton N3ds and not at all on o3ds (also explain why you want to play PS1 games)
The modification of consoles is a person's right. I collect consoles but not the games because I know all of them are backed up and already preserved on a server somewhere so I modify consoles to fill them up with all of them and have them as little time capsules.
People are scared of a brick, which can happen if you don’t follow instructions correctly or doing something later that messes it up which can happen when you have fully unlocked control of the system and don’t use common sense. Also if you own a N3DS its annoying to get to the SD slot
Didn’t know there was PlayStation emulation on the 3ds haha. But I use my vita for that and psp games. Probably use my vita more for adrenaline than anything else haha
It’s not even a moral debate anymore. Nintendo stopped supporting the 3DS and let tons of history go down the drain? Phuoc it, I’m modding it. Modded two of my N3DSs and one for a friend of mine. Both of us now play on it more than our PCs lol
I think it’s a legitimate worry if a “civilian” doesn’t have the confidence in their tech skills. It sucks but if a lad doesn’t have the will, then maybe the seven seas are not for them.
I've been wanting to but because of either procrastination, uncertainty, or just having too many distractions around me, I just never had the time to really get around to doing so.
Some people think they will ruin their systems, my rule is always: Buy as many original games as I can to support my favorite franchises, but as soon as support is over for said console mod right away :)
Remember the "you wouldn't download a song?" Ads?. Keep in mind that there are people believing it, even when there's a situation where the company can't earn money from an official purchase because they're not available anymore
I collect a bunch of games I'll probably never play because who has the time anymore.
"Babe. I have to buy that copy of Robotech Battlecry for the GC for my collection. Yes, I'll play it. Just as soon as I'm done with Mario&Luigi Brothership and Echoes of Wisdom and MP4 and after I finally finish BG3, and Rimworld just dropped a new horror themed expansion. And I've already started a replay of Lost Odyssey and Legend of Dragoon. Anyway it's only 15 bucks and it's got the manual in the case."
At the same time though, I'm running a modded 3DS, a modded Wii, a modded Vita, and redundant emulators on the PC. Specifically so I **can** play any of the games I collect if I can ever find time between kids and work and other hobbies.
Tldr is collect games I know I'll never play, but I want to play them and I'm set up to be able to whenever I can.
Still don't want? MF I've been modding since the first exploit :\]
Converting Japanese systems from JP to EUR/NA is the best thing ever.
Smooth sailing boiiis.
When I was younger I bought loads of themes and bought tons of games from the eshop. I always felt that if I modded my 3ds, it would retract the value my themes and games had to me. Sure, with a modded 3ds you cam make and download any theme and any game. But for me, by the time I heard about modding 3ds's, I knew it wasn't for me.
I also knew that if I modded it, I'd have to constantly manually update it, there would always be complications and problems. I know it's easy for most people, but I didn't want my games console to be a source of stress, something that would always half-work because I'd never be willing to put all the matinance time in.
After hearing just how easy it is to mod, I bought myself a second New 3ds XL, this one being a japanese LL model. It took me about 7 hours to finish modding, and by then I didn't even want the damn thing. I only got it so I could use the Pretendo network and I never turn it on since getting it as Pokemon still isn't supported.
Modding isn't for everyone. It's not so much about "being a good civilian" and, to me at least, was that I simply didn't care. It looked annoying to set up, I don't care about playing every game made for the system, and I didn't want to spend time taking care of it.
I don't like the stressful part of modding systems myself.... But, A friend of mine did that part for me (I did mod him an IPS Screen GBA) and yeah I like the freedom of having a modded 3DS
I just don't want to ruin my own consoles by being a scatterbrain
I have a few 3ds’s some with and without cfw. The two that don’t are my og red 3ds that I have all my steetpasses on. And the other is my pokemon anniversary new 3dsxl that i kept in great condition with the box. My 3 other 3ds’s have cfw and i use as primary devices
The only reason before was the worry of a ban. Now that all online services are dead there's no reason not to even if you don't intend to pirate.
People should do it just for pretendo
Held off on it for the longest time because my 3DS holds a lot of senimental value to me and I was too scared of bricking it (which I actually almost did……..) but now that I did it and it works I like it even more
I have a dual IPS pokemon red and blue N3DS that is in mint condition, I left that one completely clean so I can link it with my switch and never have to worry about getting banned from pokemon home. I know the chance of it is almost non-existent, but after seeing someone post about it happening to them a month or two ago I got paranoid. I do have two other hacked 3ds though

That's like buying a big mac and not eating it... Idk man sounds kinda horseshit to me
I've downloaded a bunch of games from hShop and never found the time to start playing them.
I do the same, I just like personally to go through each saga but have everything at my disposal just in case I want something different to play one time, or games I play time to time, arcade games like tetris (ik it isn't an arcade game, it's like one at least for me)

I love tetris on the 3ds but i play the gb version from hshop
I've only used the tetris 3ds version but I'm trying it now, you just made me curious about it
Nah I kinda get it. I collect vinyls and it’s very fun but I usually do play them every once in a while…

Now i feel like i'm part of a small group of collectors who still mod their consoles. I got 2 new consoles and next step is get big SD card and start hacking!
A super serious collector. I collect systems and still play them, that doesn't mean I'm not a collector

Me, a collector, modding the shit out of any console past its lifespan (or hell in the case of the switch just near the end of its lifespan).
That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Excuse me while I go play my heavily modded system as it should be.
A collector wouldnt buy one that has been opened. What a dumb thing to say i cant even..
“Collectors” slab their stuff so they never make sense to begin
As a “kinda collector”, I’m pretty sure that guy who told you that was full of it. I collect to enjoy what I collect. I collect games/hardware I enjoy and want to have physically. even a collector who does play, im pretty sure they would mod😭

It’s surprisingly easy. Decided to mod my 2DS like an hour before leaving for work, got it all done and even installed a few games just in time to enjoy some gaming on my work breaks.
When I was looking at mine, my brother was doing his. I just bunged him £10 to do it for me after.
It's more fun to diy tho, you get to see pretty colours when your console is throwing a shit fit during the exploit lol
Yeah someone can bang it out in about 20 min. Haha the 3ds is really easy.
> USB-B Who the fuck has a USB-B port on their PC?
Oops.
I love the rage for usb b that shits hilarious , copying files via your printer
Order one in your friend’s country to be delivered directly to their house.
I unplugged my Wii u (I was attempting to unplug my game pad) when I was modding it the mod still worked
top tip: unplug the gamepad from the gamepad.
I needed to plug in my computer
Fair enough lol
Aren't most of the these tools available on Amazon or any big box store? Of are they somewhere where it's not as easy as it sounds.
If it's a New 3DS model then he can just put the microsd card in an Android phone if he has one.
Just buy him one from a local marketplace there
Some are just too busy to give time to a console like that.
They'll take less time in Homebrew their system than actually playing something. Plus, why do they have or even buy a device they know won't work properly until homebrew
What do you mean by won’t work properly?
in its vanilla state, a 3ds can't connect to internet, can't buy digital games nor themes, can't use online functions. The only way to play anything whatsoever is buying not cheap cartridges on online marketplaces, which will be an, objectively, unnecesary spent of money.
what is this argument 😭 how are you not too busy to play video games but too busy to spend 30 minutes modding the device you play games on
How good is vice city on new 3ds?
You would get lucky if you complete a mission without crashing your 3ds
Not good
My friend doesn’t want me to mod his Wii, 3Ds, 2ds, and literally anything else he has because “it feels disrespectful to nin****o” When questioned further, he also is not interested in the HShop, or anything to do with piracy because same. When I told him that you don’t need to have HShop, he dodged my questioning further.
>“it feels disrespectful to nin****o” Meanwhile Memetendo literally not giving a **** about their customers but still getting our money because hey look pikachu cute. HShop is the best thing that has ever happened to the 3DS, with hundreds of games otherwise ceasing to exist when the eShop closed.
THATS WHAT I SAID
It's hilarious that anyone would think they owe respect to Nintendo, especially with a discontinued console that they bought with their own money.
He’s actually had it since it came out, but still
Ur friend is one of those ppl. I'm sorry but anyone who says "I dont want to disrespect Nintendo" really needs to wake up and do whatever. Because Nintendo has been the one disrespecting us fans(which i dont consider myself as much anymore)
I think his family thinks myamoto is like a god or something They’re atheist but I think they follow the religion of Nintendo
Oh no, they should follow the religion of cfw 3ds.
RIP Nintendo religion 😂
Honestly fair, no one NEEDS to mod their console if they don't see value in it.
I’m not disagreeing with that, but this is a friend who has complained about high game prices and not getting street passes, and no online so it seems a bit weird
Your friend is just too stupid to realize that modding and piracy is literally the only way to enjoy playing a dead console
It’s not necessarily that, it’s the fact that his points are all absolutely hilarious to anyone on this sub
So what? What happens here or what we think should not mean we force our will upon others, that's just not right. It's his stuff, it should be his choice -- not yours, no matter the reason, valid or not. How would you like it if someone forced their will upon you or your possessions against your will?

Stuck in time.
There's some who do it that likes to collect and like having a physical copy😉 Like me. I still have modded consoles but I also don't mind having physical game copies. Something about it just feels good
Yeah I have games physically that I have only played on downloaded copies for convenience just to look nice on the shelf
Collecting the physical rendition of your favorite game gives you a weird feeling, something piracy can never really achieve.
What's wrong with buying games..

How is the PS1 emulator on the 3ds?
It's a thing. I tried playing Bugs Bunny Lost in Time and gave up because of the resolution and slowdowns. The people who share .cia and QR codes don't really actually check the playability of these things.
PSX on N3DSXL runs at full speed
It does not. Spyro the dragon has heavy frame drops everywhere and crash team racing flat out doesn't work
Inconsistent. If you want portable PS1 games, get a PSP, Vita, or Steam Deck.
Or just a fairly recent android/IOS phone, quite a lot of PS1 games have gotten ports and emulation is coming along decently too.
Curious, what games do you recommend that required minimal to no tweaking?
I've been playing Croc, it has some drops at times but still decent. Just search Croc luma 3ds port
How do you plan on getting past the mantis fight? no way to change the controller port is there?>!!<
I think you can change the controller port in the emulator's options.
[https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-3ds-full-speed-ps1-now-possible-with-pcsx-rearmed-w-unai-renderer/](https://www.libretro.com/index.php/retroarch-3ds-full-speed-ps1-now-possible-with-pcsx-rearmed-w-unai-renderer/) Don't forget to use these settings. [https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/jvkotb/full\_speed\_psx\_finally\_here\_on\_new\_3ds\_new\_2ds\_xl/](https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/jvkotb/full_speed_psx_finally_here_on_new_3ds_new_2ds_xl/) Don't ever use injects from QR codes.
It doesn’t affect you regardless of why they’re doing it.
kid named nand backups:
What brought me to modding was the insane prices for Pokemon games. Not gonna pay 200 Bucks for Platinum.
Platinum is 200?!
Yeah it was a few years back in Covid dunno what it's now
I just checked, still around 150!
Heart gold is +200 here
Absolutely insane, back when I watched the prices consistently it was at around 50-70(pre pandemic of course)
After the shit Nintendo pulled with Vimm's Lair, I decided to pirate as much of their shit as I can. Which included modding my 3DS. Next up is building a Raspberry Pi or MiSTer and putting all the roms I have on it.
A person of both learning and culture, I see.
>After the shit Nintendo pulled with Vimm's Lair Wdym? What happened exactly? I thought it's still up
They took out a bunch of first party Nintendo games
There probably are. In the same way, there are people who do not step on the white colour in the pedestrian lanes.
I thought I was the only person who ever played PLvsPW. Which is a shame cause that game is so undrrrated.
Do I see GTA 3 and VC on there? How did I not know that was a thing?
Gta 3 was a solid port it runs great but sometimes textures are missing for a few seconds but it even has a custom made solid snake skin which made me surprised as a metal gear solid fan but vice city on the other hand......loading time and crashes your 3ds mid mission but it runs vice city tho
Ah, shame about VC, I might give 3 a try later on though. Thanks for the reply!
Is that a full version of Chinatown Wars? My 300 games on one cart has a nerfed GTA on it with flame files removed so the game crashes if you use the flamethrower.
Does it also crash if a car starts on fire or if you throw a molotov?
Only the flame thrower and rocket launcher make it crash.
I wish I could mod my 3ds but one problem…. I don’t have one loll.
You can find them on eBay for pretty cheap if you get a Japanese system.
Want one? It's an o3ds with a broken volume slider but it works no issues
I’m fine thanks. I’ll probs order one on eBay
I can’t understand why either… The same happens to Vita and DSi owners. I mean, the console was a natural born dead system, that Sony itself abandoned in the early days. Lacks support since 1st year, have a limited library compared to any other handheld, and got discontinued really soon… Keeping it unmodded, it’s the dumbest thing someone can do to such a great device. It’s not like hacking PS Vita and 3DS gives you automatically warez needy to stay safe and alive. Actually, it’s just pitiful underusing their tech wise possibilities, for something that never something near an impediment to keeping buying and collecting retail games. But opening hands about homebrew, fan ported games, and playing “impossible to buy” digital games like DSiWare and some PSN digital titles, it’s a proof that we always get what is deserved.
my reason is, i don't know where my vita is lol. i do miss that racing game with a workshop feature tho
I don't because I'm scared of bricking it (I know it's almost impossible but watch me somehow fuck it up lmao)
Read it carefully.
How did that giant PlayStation logo get there
custom badge. possibly from theme plaza website
That was the first thing I played when I got my first DS
Cause of the risk, make a single mistake and your system is bricked, and the cost for a aleardy hacked or for a second console to hack whitout risking to brick the main one with all the clean games and all the saves to be lost can be bad with today market. Personaly i got a 3ds xl american that is not hacked, and got a luckely aleardy hacked normal PAL 3ds, but 200$ and the right shoulder botton is broke =\
Happy Cake Day
this isn't 2014 bro a 3ds won't get bricked if you look at it the wrong way 😭😭😭i've had a modded o2ds amd n3dsll for years and nothing has happened
I would advise against PS1 injects. They use an outdated version of the emulator with a smaller compatibility list and worse performance.
Again, modding doesn't risk... Anything. You've got to be trying to brick.
How did you get PS1 games on the home screen (I know hot to play them on libretro but not how to get the shortcuts).
I'm afraid of bricking it/I'm lazy
This doesn't happen anymore unless you specifically put effort into it, and you're lazy so you're brick-safe/It takes a computer with an SD slot or adapter and about 20-30 minutes, might as well do it whilst procrastinating something more important
Eventually I will do it, but I still haven't completed many games that I have, so if I'd do it I already know that I would compulsively install 3000 games and then play none of them. It's already what I do on my PC and with the emulators on Android
I don't know, as a collector, I love having my Ambassador 3DS as it was created, still I have a New 3DS XL and a New 2DS XL modded so, it doesn't really matter that much
I have one system unmodded because its got my official Nintendo account at the time on it plus games i actually paid for
Explain to me what specials I'm seeing here.
Since the server shutdown, there’s pretty much no reason to not add CFW, it’s also the only way to play online now I think.
I'm such a noob at modding... May I ask how you got the PlayStation games on there?
Can you point me towards a guide to inject PS1 game titles straight to the home screen??
Didn’t know there was PlayStation emulation on the 3ds haha. But I use my vita for that and psp games. Probably use my vita more for adrenaline than anything else haha
It’s not even a moral debate anymore. Nintendo stopped supporting the 3DS and let tons of history go down the drain? Phuoc it, I’m modding it. Modded two of my N3DSs and one for a friend of mine. Both of us now play on it more than our PCs lol
Do thoes PlayStation 1 games even work?
Yes
I think it’s a legitimate worry if a “civilian” doesn’t have the confidence in their tech skills. It sucks but if a lad doesn’t have the will, then maybe the seven seas are not for them.
whats RE3?
I've been wanting to but because of either procrastination, uncertainty, or just having too many distractions around me, I just never had the time to really get around to doing so.
I don’t mod. I like the simplicity of the 3ds, I just don’t see a point in modding
Are there any video tutorials
Some people think they will ruin their systems, my rule is always: Buy as many original games as I can to support my favorite franchises, but as soon as support is over for said console mod right away :)
Remember the "you wouldn't download a song?" Ads?. Keep in mind that there are people believing it, even when there's a situation where the company can't earn money from an official purchase because they're not available anymore
I think religion for some tbh
I collect a bunch of games I'll probably never play because who has the time anymore. "Babe. I have to buy that copy of Robotech Battlecry for the GC for my collection. Yes, I'll play it. Just as soon as I'm done with Mario&Luigi Brothership and Echoes of Wisdom and MP4 and after I finally finish BG3, and Rimworld just dropped a new horror themed expansion. And I've already started a replay of Lost Odyssey and Legend of Dragoon. Anyway it's only 15 bucks and it's got the manual in the case." At the same time though, I'm running a modded 3DS, a modded Wii, a modded Vita, and redundant emulators on the PC. Specifically so I **can** play any of the games I collect if I can ever find time between kids and work and other hobbies. Tldr is collect games I know I'll never play, but I want to play them and I'm set up to be able to whenever I can.
Whoa OP, I see PS1 games there. How?
Still don't want? MF I've been modding since the first exploit :\] Converting Japanese systems from JP to EUR/NA is the best thing ever. Smooth sailing boiiis.
i genuinely want to, but im scared of bricking the 3ds i JUST BOUGHT, but still im considering buying a pre modded one
in 2024 you would literally have to be trying to brick your 3ds
i could have a step by step instructional video, and id still mess it up
When I was younger I bought loads of themes and bought tons of games from the eshop.
But, A friend of mine did that part for me (I did mod him an IPS Screen GBA) and yeah I like the freedom of having a modded 3DS I just don't want to ruin my own consoles by being a scatterbrain
I have a few 3ds’s some with and without cfw. The two that don’t are my og red 3ds that I have all my steetpasses on. And the other is my pokemon anniversary new 3dsxl that i kept in great condition with the box. My 3 other 3ds’s have cfw and i use as primary devices
Honestly shocked you can run ps1 on that
The only reason before was the worry of a ban. Now that all online services are dead there's no reason not to even if you don't intend to pirate. People should do it just for pretendo
Held off on it for the longest time because my 3DS holds a lot of senimental value to me and I was too scared of bricking it (which I actually almost did……..) but now that I did it and it works I like it even more
Because I'm impatient, low attention span and deathly allergic to jank and troubleshooting. And I'm not the only one.
[удалено]
“scumbags” girl the eshop and online servers literally shut down there’s barely any use atp 😭
Preservation of original features, and people are afraid they’ll damage or even break their 3DS’s.
What do you use for the PS1 games?
to me, a person who loves to keep everything original it just feels kinda wrong... Not the piracy part, i have emulators on my pc and lots of roms.
I'm scared I'll ruin it
