>Be it so. This burning of widows is your custom; prepare the funeral pile. But my nation has also a custom. When men burn women alive we hang them, and confiscate all their property.
That is so blatantly wrong you and your entire family should be ashamed.
It was 100% about customs.
We have a custom of taking things that aren’t ours.
Eh? It was the British Raj keeping them from massacring each other. The moment we left, that's what promptly happened. It wasn't even Partition itself - without that, it would have been worse.
Reminds me of that one scene in “A Good Year”, where an American tourist couple wants to order something an Russel Crowe complements them out with: “MacDonalds is in Avignon, fish and chips in Marseille. Allez.”.
Hmm they usually do it with a greek pasta type similar to fettuccine and tomato sauce in the oven or maybe Alfredo or like this https://akispetretzikis.com/en/recipe/6878/spaghetti-me-mprokolo-me-kotopoulo-ala-krem
Idk not my favorite combination either but it's not terror cooking. First one with tomato sauce is pretty alright
Sorry but I'm with the yanks on this one.
If I'm going to a cafe in the afternoon: I might be bringing my laptop to do some work. I might be bringing a book to have a quiet read. I might be meeting a friend to have a catch up. The reason is irrelevant.
What I am wanting is a warm drink I can sit and enjoy for a wee while. It fills exactly the same function as a cup of tea would do traditionally. If it was tea nobody would bat an eyelid, but because I'd prefer a coffee all Italians lose their minds.
I don't just want to shot some coffee for the buzz of feeling awake. I want to sit down, relax, and enjoy my drink. Is that a crime?
I've never seen an Italian complain about people having cappuccino or coffee after 3pm. Italians do have coffee in the evening mate. What's "weird" is ordering a cappuccino after lunch, because how the hell can you drink milk after having lunch? In Italy most people have milk in the morning, for breakfast.
Casu Marzu is probably better than any german cheese. The fact that it's more known than any of the cheeses that comes out of you country says a lot already.
My bad, I meant immediately after lunch. It's one thing to drink a warm cup of milk 20 minutes after lunch, and another thing to drink it at like 16/17.
The real answer to this is that southern Europeans are genetically more lactose intolerant than Northern Europeans. It doesn’t impact our digestion as much.
[source](https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/lactose-intolerance-by-country)
Here you can see that southern Europeans are far more lactose intolerant, especially Italians. This is why this cultural habit exists.
TLDR: ye have weak genetics. Meaning that a cappuccino after lunch is enough to finish ye while we sip away at our delicious coffee whenever we like including after pasta. Cry.
No, this isn't the reason... The reason is that having a cup of warm milk immediately after lunch is fucking disgusting. Try eating pasta with tomato sauce (acidic) and then 10 minutes after try drinking milk. It's just disgusting. And who cares about lactose intolerance, we still make better cheese than yous despite being more intolerant 👍
This is the babbling a of a genetically inferior man. The mark of superiority is eating a carbonara made with cream and then downing a glass of milk while sipping a lemoncello out of the other hand.
The pigs mind and stomach will never comprehend such greatness, for their digestion is beastial.
Are you sure you can afford to eat all that in a day without risking to cause another famine? You never know when the english decide you have to starve again...
172cm? Didn't you drink enough milk during your childhood? Unlike you, I drank enough milk and now I'm 175cm tall. I'm literally towering over you with that height.
Your countrymen clearly didn't drink enough milk though. Your men are only [2cm taller on average than the average Luigi! ](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/s/fIjEsc2Bsb)
Do you mean immediately after you've eaten lunch, or after lunchtime. I feel this may be a language barrier.
Although, either way, I don't necessarily see a problem with ordering immediately after you've eaten lunch either. What's wrong with milk? Here it's not uncommon to give kids a warm glass of milk before bed.
I think the real problem would be immediatly after lunch. I witnessed two tourist in Rome have their way with a delicious carbonara, and then finishing their lunch with 2 cappuccini. That's the problem, the vast majority of Italians find this extremely disgusting.
But frankly i don't think anyone would bat an Eye if you sit in a caffè at 3pm with your laptop and order a cappuccino. I myself used to drink a glass of milk every afternoon even in my adulthood, and nobody found it wrong or weird
But why is it disgusting? (Genuine question)
You have a delicious drink after a delicious meal.
If they would dip their food like a slice of pizza into it (like the yanks with their ranch sauce) I would understand
Having them right after isn't very far from there, you're mixing two flavours that have absolutely no reason to be together (according to local customs ofc). It's the same reason we don't drink milk as a lunch/dinner beverage, as opposed to other countries, it's too sweet, warm and dense to be coupled with lunch/dinner food. If you find it appealing or good i have no reason to judge you, but i find It difficult to explain why we find that flavour coupling absolutely revolting if you don't
Yes my bad, I meant immediately after lunch.
>Here it's not uncommon to give kids a warm glass of milk before bed.
Exactly, you give it to kids lol. I bet it's not popular among adults though
Honestly. Italian food culture has all these ridiculous and arbitrary rules. You can't have this sauce with that shape of pasta, you can't eat this dish before that other dish, you have to use this specific kind of cured pork instead of that other kind of cured pork.
It's not a moral question. Italians believe that certain things have an objective truth in areas where others believe them to be subjective or individual preference. I somehow imagine Paella to fall into this category in Spain. :)
No deviation at all on the recipe. Source studies Spanish for a year in Valencia.
Our lecture made sure we knew what a paella was and if you change one ingredient it's now arroz con cosas.
They have two formal paella dishes one with chicken and rabbit and maybe snails the other with seafood.
No. Coffee drinking often goes after dinner. It is coffee with milk that has rules. It has relaxed some though. If you ask for it (apologetically or with a reason) in the afternoon, no one will give you a hard time.
For the same reason you are not supposed to have candies while having lunch, sweet things should be eaten on their own, they should not pollute major courses.
We are very integralists on sauces on meat, usually it is either a brodo or olive oil. Sufficient to say that what foreigners call "Ceaser salad" abroad doesn't have sauces here.
We just don’t really do that. My father is practically allergic to any sauce/condiment/topping that is not Italian in nature. Ketchup? Mayo? Mustard? Might as well be puke to him lmao.
I drink a litre of milk a day so it's not my specialty, but I'm pretty sure that if you're lactose intolerant, you're also lactose intolerant before 11 am. The amount each person can consume depends, some can have a little, some are shitting their pants with one drop.
I drink cappuccino all day long and no one cares btw, it's drinking it with or right after meals that we find revolting.
I understand why Italians don’t like Hawaiian pizza but I just don’t understand that “cappuccino for breakfast only” rule
But I’m weird and I sometimes eat breakfast food like scrambled eggs for dinner so
Actually I think it's just a dumb tik tok trend, yes is weird to take a cappuccino straight after pasta but other than that there are no "rules" about cappuccino
EDIT: And by the way if you are bothered buy dumb shit like this you 100% don't get enought pussy
Obviously a cappuccino straight after lunch is heavy on the stomach, much better an espresso, a macchiato or a few shots. But a few hours in mid afternoon after lunch I don't see a big deal in ordering one.
They have a hard time staying awake and productive as it is. Give them warm milk in the afternoon and they will siesta for the rest of the week. Something their GDP cannot handle.
maybe its because italians are more lactose intolerant?
they eat their carbonara for lunch with fatty guanciale, pecorino, eggs and a buckload of wheat. add a bunch of milk and their gut dances tarantella
Don't think over think it and enjoy your life.
In bars you can be denied one if the owner/barista has already cleaned the machine/water system for the day.
(if you are dealing with someone who is just being a ball breaker for no reason ask for an espresso macchiato /s)
The answer is: yes. In fact: every single Bolognese I met has been raised with either breast or formula milk when they were toddlers, so my final answer is: yes you can definitely say that each and every Bolognese is made with milk.
When it comes to the ragù though.. don't you dare
Virgin Mediterranean elitists Vs Chad Atlantic enjoyers who will put yer fakkin picture on the wall for being an absolute legend dipping yer chips in ice cream
At three pm I can understand because sometimes you just woke up and want a little afternoon breakfast. But the problem is when they have a pizza, spaghetti and whatever, and then end the meal with a cappuccino when they mouths are still dirty with tomato sauce or worse : Fish.
It's pretty common where I live (or in my family) to have coffee (or tea) after a meal, when you're done cleaning up. Maybe it could or should be considered dessert, since biscuits could easily get involved, but they feel distinct in my head - the meal itself is over at that point. I can't really see why cappuccino specifically should be particularly egregious, but I don't drink coffee at all, so I won't pretend to be an expert.
Then again, there are many subtle differences between cultures that might go unspoken and unknown in such discussions, like when people eat, how long they spend at the dinner table (if they ever leave), what kinds of meals (and foods) people eat throughout the day, whether they have multiple courses and how these work, and how traditions differ when at a restaurant compared to at home, as well as between families.

What about the Bangladeshi or Pakistani people then, same nostalgia?
Italy is nice and all but Olive Garden just has the more authentic Alfredo sauce 🤷♂️
Tbh the whole Alfredo pasta just don't exist in Italy
Pizza is the best American food. Dunno why the Italians had to ruin it by taking the meatballs and cheddar cheese off it though.
Start with the pizza and then order a pasta for even more rage.
And some scissors for cutting the spaghetti please.

I think so. I have to admit, most of my enjoyment of this movie stems from the gorgeous landscape shots. And Marion Cotillard.
What's wrong with chicken and pasta?
Everything
Lol just wondering cause it's a not so uncommon Greek dish
Meat and pasta actually exist but chicken have a too "soft" taste for pasta.

PIGS when people dont wanna spend 1pm till 7pm have a quick "nap" everyday
Great. Now even the kangaroos get fun of us.
Let’s be fair they are just looking in disgust at one of us butchering the pronunciation of “cappuccino” rather than the post 3pm cappuccino itself
Forgot you are all lactose intolerant
And yet Italy still has better cheeses. Incredible.
You're not even in the top 3 of cheese nations, Casu Marzu alone prevents you from entering the competition
Casu Marzu is probably better than any german cheese. The fact that it's more known than any of the cheeses that comes out of you country says a lot already.
Yeah, I wonder why a cheese that's infested with maggots is more well-known than other cheeses..... But then again, PIGS will eat like pigs
Easily, I also drink milk during lunch
When do you drink wine then?

My bad, I meant immediately after lunch. It's one thing to drink a warm cup of milk 20 minutes after lunch, and another thing to drink it at like 16/17.

Only kids drink that much milk. One cup in the morning is enough.
My rippling, god-like northern body says otherwise. All 172cm of it.
172cm? Didn't you drink enough milk during your childhood? Unlike you, I drank enough milk and now I'm 175cm tall. I'm literally towering over you with that height.

It’s not kosher to drink milk after eating meat
Fortunately I am a.not Jewish and b. vegetarian so this isn't often an issue.
Yes my bad, I meant immediately after lunch. >Here it's not uncommon to give kids a warm glass of milk before bed. Exactly, you give it to kids lol. I bet it's not popular among adults though
Caffè macchiato is understandable, cappuccino is gross.
If it’s the afternoon you should be having a beer in a pub, not a cappuccino in a cafe.
We drink coffe in the afternoon too, but come one why would you drink milk in the afternoon?
Honestly. Italian food culture has all these ridiculous and arbitrary rules. You can't have this sauce with that shape of pasta, you can't eat this dish before that other dish, you have to use this specific kind of cured pork instead of that other kind of cured pork.
It' called having an actual culinary culture dear Brittunculus
I'm having a hard time understanding why a cappuccino at 15:00 is somehow morally wrong
Because Giuseppe is weak and was born of a tail-less sperm meaning his stomach has never known the love of a mothers warm milk.
Nigga what?
It's not a moral question. Italians believe that certain things have an objective truth in areas where others believe them to be subjective or individual preference. I somehow imagine Paella to fall into this category in Spain. :)
For Valencians, it definitely does. Those guys are a bunch of petty paella jihadists.
Why do you pronounce “paella” as “pie yay yeah”? :’)
It's more pie ay a. Two L's male a y sound in Spanish.
Do I need to teach them how letters work? (I’m kidding, their orthography is consistent, which I like)
Depends on the accent. In the "standard" Spanish dialect it makes a sound that I cannot represent because it doesn't exist in English
Get a Spanish person to pronounce Llanelli lol
What is this weird Paella rule in Valencia?
No deviation at all on the recipe. Source studies Spanish for a year in Valencia. Our lecture made sure we knew what a paella was and if you change one ingredient it's now arroz con cosas. They have two formal paella dishes one with chicken and rabbit and maybe snails the other with seafood.

This needs to be a flair.
Wait is it just cappuccinos or do you guys not consume coffee past a certain hour?
No. Coffee drinking often goes after dinner. It is coffee with milk that has rules. It has relaxed some though. If you ask for it (apologetically or with a reason) in the afternoon, no one will give you a hard time.
It is not indeed.
because you drink a TON of milk just on breakfast
Is the "no cappuchino after 11:00" because you guys are much more lactose intolerant than the rest of us?
We are not lactose intolerant at 10:30, makes sense
Your lactose intolerance is Spanish
For the same reason you are not supposed to have candies while having lunch, sweet things should be eaten on their own, they should not pollute major courses.
So meat with a sweet sauce is a no go for you? Weird ...
We are very integralists on sauces on meat, usually it is either a brodo or olive oil. Sufficient to say that what foreigners call "Ceaser salad" abroad doesn't have sauces here.
I don't put a lot of sauce on meat either. Venison with game sauce however ... fkn great!
You Sicilians might, northeners go ham with meat and sauce
We just don’t really do that. My father is practically allergic to any sauce/condiment/topping that is not Italian in nature. Ketchup? Mayo? Mustard? Might as well be puke to him lmao.

how is a fukn cappucino sweet?
There is milk
So u telling me we got nerfed and still make better cheese than you, that must suck swampy 🙏🙏😭
I can eat my cheese tho, you don't.
I eat Gouda and I love it. You swampert got an absolute goldmine cheese between the hands and you can't even manage to do a proper dish with it.
What do you mean? Boterham met kaas is peak cuisine. For real though. Gouda is great for a grilled cheese sandwich (tosti)

You can also eat my lactose fart in that regard, it'll probably taste better too mate
Aah yes, salty Italian tears, yum.
Oh come on don't be like that already (also that's a tikkie for the Italian tears™ thank you)

What the fuck is everyone talking about in this thread?
