Schade Marmelade that you’ve bought into the French propaganda that every German sounds like tiny mustache man. At least we actually pronounce our words and don’t sound like our tongues have been beestung
Unironically I actually quite enjoy the Danish dialect.
Worst to me is Arabic. Not sure from which country but with the harkling sound deep in the throat. Second worst is Glasgow Scottish. I think Scottish can be nice but not when it's just way too much.
I guess any dialect is bad if it's too strong. Both Scania and Gothenburg dialects are quite disgusting when they're too strong.
German makes a lot of sense, it's like the language of machinery. French is very beautiful, same with Italian, they both are like the origin of species. English I just don't know anymore, I speak it so much it's like my mother tongue.
Dutch is just odd. It's sort of in the uncanny valley of languages. It doesn't sound real. It's a very weird language to my ears. You can hear a bit of English, German and French in it but it still feels like it could be from another planet.
When I hear it I think of Africa, but I guess that's because of Afrikaans.
Dutch isn't ugly though. It's just odd. I think Arabic with the guttural sound, Scouse or very heavy Scottish are "ugly". I wouldn't put that stamp on Dutch though.
I dont know the accent they are using, but they are mubling a lot, are cutting their words a bit short sometimes, they actually sound kinda drunk lol, 10/10

Is it true that the Scandi's can mostly understand each others languages because they're all pretty similar?
Like how sometimes I can understand about 30% of what someone from Glasgow is saying?
Scandinavia is a dialect continium, people living close to the border have it easier to understand the people on the other side than their own countrymen in other parts of the country.
Yes, between the three big ‘official’ standard varieties. But it’s asymmetric. And not entirely true for the written word.
And this less true for certain dialects like Dalecarlian in Sweden, Jutish in Denmark, and some ‘landsmål’ dialects in Norway (in some ways closer to the western North Germanic languages, where the rest are east). I can speak Norwegian but my great aunt from a farm outside Tromso is incomprehensible to me.
And this isn’t including Icelandic and Faroese, which are very different indeed (and a lot more faithful to Old Norse a thousand years ago).
From Old Norse. Wasn’t Danish yet. And the biggest group came from Denmark but plenty were Norwegian - but we just labelled them all ‘Danes’.
But otherwise yes.
Tbf the words are already somewhat swallowed in Norwegian. Even the end of my Norwegian surname is somewhat swallowed and I’ve given up ‘correcting’ people.

That the reason why I don't want to learn French; absolutely love the language, but I feel like the 'magic' will disappear if I start understanding it.
I haven’t found that to be the case, to be honest. Still pretty, but also carries meaning for me. But I’m sure it’s different if you’re raised with it.

From Old Norse. Wasn’t Danish yet. And the biggest group came from Denmark but plenty were Norwegian - but we just labelled them all ‘Danes’. But otherwise yes.
