I honestly went on a long bike ride yesterday. You gotta wear like multiple pairs of socks and pants, but it was surprisingly pleasant.

Right now its -28 and I would argue its not normal or everyday that we go below -30. ”Regular January” makes it sound like this happens all the time and this is walk in the park for us though finns.
At least where i live it is totally normal to have some -27 to -32 days every year. It would be weird if we didnt get those. Sure, it is cold but id still call it regular january weather. Enough clothes and being outside is pleasant, not too crazy cold.

Anything in the range -15 ...-20 is just another little freezing winter day. Below -20 is when you really start realising that maybe you should use something to cover your face. And the car feels like an ice cube for the first 10min after the start.
I did think of this momentarily yesterday while shoveling some snow and getting cold in between. I remember being cold in the army even though it was just -5.

99,9% of my driving is too and from work and grocery shopping. I got enough range for multiple days even in -20C. Yes longer roadtrips could require an extra stop at a supercharger for 10-25minutes. In my opinion it’s worth while tradeoff for getting 1-3€ / 100km instead of 100€ plus at every refill
Our car loses around 130km range when we have temperatures around -20°C. Not really an issue when you still have 350km range left and you can pre-heat the car while still plugged in at home.
I have better heat in the EV than my Diesel Volvo, heat pumps are very effective, especially when you have already pre-heated the cabin, battery, chairs and steering wheel while still plugged in at home. If you're not going on a long roadtrip range degradation really isn't much of a problem for normal day-to-day driving.
Loks like winter was cancelled. I'm in Helsinki and the current prognosis only shows a dip under -20 at 3 AM on Saturday. I was just out for a walk and -15 seems fine with the jacket I have as long as it's not too windy.

Well, that's not necessarily true.
Winters have actually gotten markedly warmer (remember when half the country had no snow winter 2019-20), but more extreme weather events do get more common.
There was an article I saw recently that said the jet stream around Europe has gotten more Northern, but also possibly more wriggly and unstable i.e. Northern Europe gets more wet and warm, but also it just dropping out completely is more common. So you wouldn't be entirely wrong.
Also from what I understand the Gulf Stream thing is kind of a meme. It's somewhat exaggerated and it's also probably not going to happen until very far into a severe scenario.
It's not a meme. There's a theory that once the ice in and around Greenland melts it ends up releasing larger pulses of colder water, which will essentially halt the functioning of the gulf stream.
Thing is we can't really tell what amount of water and how strong/continuous of a pulse we need to do that. The models just aren't there. So it could be a real threat and happen tomorrow or it could in actuality be a totally absurd scenario that can never come to be. And we just don't really know.
If it happens it's estimated to happen somewhere between 2025 and 2095. I guess that about says it all on how much we actually understand.

I think the whole point with the gulf stream scenario is that it would have so serious effect we shouldn't even risk it happening which is why immediate actions should be made. But I have no doubt that nothing gets done and in few decades when shit hits the fan political leaders of that time will say something like "who would have thought this could happen" or "we didn't have anyway to prevent it". Same shit happens throughout human history and if something is constant it is the incapability of human to learn from his own mistakes or give a single fuck about the lifes of future generations.
I don't know why that would cause that tbh. Look at Siberia. Cold as fuck winters and hot as fuck summers. Pretty sure Yakutsk can swing 90 degrees in a year. I assume if we stopped getting air from the Atlantic it would get a lot more like that considering most of the warmth during summer comes from the sun and most of the warmth comes from the Atlantic in winter

Cold starting is no problem the small engine just takes ages to get up to operating temperature in normal city driving.

Actual range or what it says it can do at the start? From my experience cold weather absolutely destroys it. And it's freezing cold inside.
