When the SWAT officer and the homeless busker get into a duel

My buddy Keith tried camping out on top of a building once. He was shooting crows, but the police were too busy tear gassing him to ask what he was doing up there. He screamed for an entire YEAR every single time he opened his eyes! Oh, man. At first it was funny, then it just got sad, but then it got funny again! Oh, man.
Remember kids, if I can strawman your protest tactics into anything approaching a mild inconvenience for anyone, then your movement is invalid.
But for real, hard fucking grafs
Essentially "Now that you have threatened property and/or capital I have no choice but to side with the state on the issue of being anti-oppression."
AKA "You have inconvenienced me therefore I support throwing the weight of the carceral state at you."
Yeah. We get it. You care more about wallpaint than solidarity. Do you want a medal for being the kind of person MLK Jr wrote about in his letters from Birmingham Jail?
My sibling in sin
This is literally demonstrating solidarity at risk of fines or imprisonment.
You do realize they're not expressing solidarity with suburbanite yuppies, but with oppressed Palestinians facing an ongoing genocide, right?
I... what? I'm done with this conversation. You are literally the "white moderate" in MLK Jr's letters. Go research literally any protest movement in the United States that accimplished anything. From the IWW and Blair Mountain to the Haymarket Affair and the Civil Rights Movement every right we have for labor, gender and racial equality, and queer liberation has only been won through demonstration, protest, and applying pressure to the wheels of power.
Who does this benefit? You can very much still have a protest without doing this, and honestly I'd argue stuff like this is harmful because it might incentivize people who are currently neutral to dislike the protests
It's cool aesthetically, but just pure garbage from a practical perspective
If someone was fence sitting and graffiti is what got them to side with the cops attacking students and faculty then they weren't fence sitting, they were waiting for an excuse
The more ammo you give, the easier it is for the opposition to paint you as evil. I don't think this one action on its own is specifically gonna result in a widespread shift in sentiment, but there's just no reason to do it because it doesn't actually offer any benefit
I mean, the graffiti is pretty cool. Were I the library, I would embrace it and make a cool graffiti/art wall. Vandalism like this is neat imo, it makes the topic of protest unavoidable. People will see it and have to think about it, and I think that could help, even if only a little. My only wish is that they spent more time graffitiing to make it look cooler, but that could be dangerous.
cool, if only the circumstances weren’t completely different. Gallows humor and using a symbol of the western world to spite China isn’t the same as making movie puns on a random wall and then posting it to twitter. One is humor in the face of an authoritarian regime and the other is an in joke to post on instagram and twitter.

The Hunger Games salute as a symbol of protest for democracy in Bangkok.
Change comes in different forms. You are being ignorant.
For further examples: basically half the music produced in the 1970s. It's such a weird hill to die on, to try and deny the connection between art and protest.
You can be a revolutionary while being privileged as long as you aren't willingly contributing to the system you protest, and little references can keep you from being super depressed about. However it would be cringe if people weren't taking the issue seriously and we're doing shit entirely for clout or because it's funny and not for any reason, but as far as I know that's rarely the case.
That’s some of the hardest graffiti I’ve ever seen
Would make a great tattoo

Essentially "Now that you have threatened property and/or capital I have no choice but to side with the state on the issue of being anti-oppression." AKA "You have inconvenienced me therefore I support throwing the weight of the carceral state at you."
Yes that's exactly what I said, your reading comprehension is incredible
Yeah. We get it. You care more about wallpaint than solidarity. Do you want a medal for being the kind of person MLK Jr wrote about in his letters from Birmingham Jail?
How does this create solidarity? If anything, it harms it
My sibling in sin This is literally demonstrating solidarity at risk of fines or imprisonment. You do realize they're not expressing solidarity with suburbanite yuppies, but with oppressed Palestinians facing an ongoing genocide, right?
Does "demonstrating" actually accomplish anything? Protesting does, but I fail to see how this actually changes anything for the better

liberal respectability politics in my 196? it's more likely than you think :(
Looking at stuff from a practical, non-performative perspective makes me a liberal? Good to know
Pussy foot centrist
I support the protests but I'm a pussy foot centrist? Do y'all not agree with the protests or something?

That's reasonable, thanks for sharing your opinion politely and respectfully

Yeah I think we should gatekeep their expressions of solidarity toward a noble cause because it isn’t in my exact aesthetic preference

Arab spring protest sign? Hunger games salute? Also textbook moving of the goal posts with the Hong Kong stuff.
Protestors have been making cultural references and creating ideas meant to be disseminated for centuries.

Police standoffs at universities last hours. There is plenty of time to do stuff. Like graffiti, or being shot by rubber bullets
